Job Description

We are seeking a Contracts Manager / Engineer to support Project Construction Execution in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This position requires site experience and knowledge in contract management for all main construction (civils, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and scaffolding) and site services contracts. This is a hands-on role to manage all aspects of contracts management and administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Post award contract and claims management.
  • Developing contract strategy, contracts development, and creating workable contracting plans for execution.
  • Managing market enquiries using pro-forma contract models for a wide range of site services contracts and purchase orders, including developing bid packages, contract terms and conditions, and supporting technical and commercial evaluation requirements.
  • Understanding and administering various commercial models (Unit rates, BOQ, reimbursable, Lump Sum) and contract terms, including bespoke models.
  • Negotiating and awarding contracts and purchase orders, aligning on technical and commercial clarifications, and making recommendations for award and execution.
  • Managing contracts and contractors on site to meet contract and project demands, ensuring cooperation, coordination, and administration of contracting requirements through execution.
  • Overseeing robust change management, including site changes, instructions, engineering changes, and mitigation of contract cost and schedule impacts.
  • Proactive claims management, including drafting notices, correspondence, and building dossiers for communications, changes, delays, mitigations, and counter claims.
  • Managing SAP registration and processes for contracts and purchase orders, including invoice management and payment support.
  • Using online platforms for bidding, prequalification, approval of new suppliers/contractors, and supporting commercial/technical evaluation and award management.
  • Reporting to ensure accurate forecasting of contract deliverables and proactively managing workload.

Critical Competencies

  • Extensive contract management and administration experience, with understanding of end-to-end contracts from placement to close out.
  • Core skills in contract management, including experience with lump sum and remeasure contracts for construction.
  • Strength in drafting contracts and purchase orders, with legal understanding of contract risk and key clauses for execution and delivery.
  • Ability to integrate cost forecasting and planning for contracts and purchase orders management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Good knowledge of SAP and requisition to pay processes.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract resolution skills.
  • Strong influencing, communication, and facilitative skills across cultures and geographies.
  • Ability to achieve targets and goals with clear action planning.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally within the team.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal) for technical and non-technical information, internally and externally.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • 15+ years of contracts experience working in industrial gases or complex engineering/construction projects.
  • MRICS and/or CIPS qualifications.
  • Bachelor of Engineering (preferably Mechanical/Civil) or QS degree is advantageous.
  • Experience in contracts and purchase orders and contractual language.
  • Excellent oral and written English proficiency.
