Construction Superintendent - Distributed Solar
Working Location
Regular travel to active project sites is required. Depending on project location, extended periods on-site may be necessary.
Position Overview
This role oversees the day-to-day field execution of distributed solar projects. The Construction Superintendent serves as the primary on-site construction representative, coordinating subcontractors, monitoring schedule and quality, enforcing site safety requirements, and ensuring construction activities are completed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and applicable standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supervising distributed generation, C&I, or community solar construction and be comfortable managing multiple trades throughout civil, mechanical, and electrical installation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day field supervision of solar construction activities from mobilization through mechanical completion, commissioning, and project turnover.
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors performing civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical scopes.
- Manage daily construction activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
- Review IFC drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project requirements with field teams and subcontractors.
- Monitor contractor manpower, productivity, equipment, materials, and overall site progress.
- Identify construction issues, schedule impacts, and field conflicts and work with the Project Manager and engineering teams to resolve them.
- Conduct daily site walks and monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with project quality requirements.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment staging, laydown areas, and site logistics.
- Monitor installation of racking, modules, electrical equipment, underground utilities, collection systems, and balance-of-system components.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, punch-list activities, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Enforce site-specific safety plans and ensure contractors comply with applicable OSHA and company safety requirements.
- Participate in daily and weekly construction meetings and provide clear updates regarding site progress, manpower, safety, quality, and upcoming activities.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, progress documentation, photographs, and construction records.
- Verify work is being completed in accordance with approved drawings, permits, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Support utility inspections, energization, and commissioning activities as required.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with landowners, inspectors, utilities, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of construction experience, preferably within solar, renewable energy, or electrical construction.
- Previous experience as a Construction Superintendent, Site Superintendent, General Superintendent, Construction Manager, or similar field leadership position.
- Direct experience with distributed generation, C&I solar, or community solar projects strongly preferred.
- Experience overseeing ground-mount, rooftop, and/or carport solar construction.
- Strong understanding of civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical construction activities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, electrical plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Experience managing multiple subcontractors and trades on active construction sites.
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, quality control, and field coordination.
- Ability to identify field issues and drive practical solutions without delaying construction.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of daily site operations.
