Description

The Work environment investigation lead directs field and laboratory investigations that identify, evaluate and mitigate workplace environmental hazards. This role combines technical sampling oversight, stakeholder coordination and clear reporting to protect worker health and support safe operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and lead workplace environmental investigations, including air and soil sampling strategies and site reconnaissance.
  • Conduct daily pulse meetings with local experts to align field activities, share observations and prioritize tasks.
  • Manage sample collection protocols and supervise chain-of-custody to ensure quality and defensible data for analysing sample results (air and soil).
  • Interpret laboratory reports and integrate results into risk assessments and control recommendations.
  • Follow up with arbets och miljomedicin to ensure worker exposure concerns and medical surveillance needs are communicated and addressed.
  • Follow up with HSE teams to develop and implement corrective actions, controls and permit or regulatory responses.
  • Prepare and deliver a daily report to project team summarizing field progress, preliminary findings and next steps.
  • Maintain clear documentation of methods, decisions and deliverables to support project audits and client records.
  • Coach and mentor field technicians and junior investigators on sampling best practices, safety protocols and inclusive teamwork.

Required and Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience

Required

  • Bachelors degree in occupational hygiene, environmental science, industrial hygiene or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience leading workplace investigations and overseeing air and soil sampling programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse sample results (air and soil) and translate findings into risk-based recommendations.
  • Proven experience coordinating daily pulse meetings with local experts and providing a daily report to project team.
  • Strong collaboration skills with documented experience following up with arbets och miljomedicin and HSE teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and familiarity with sampling quality assurance and chain-of-custody procedures.

Nice to have

  • Experience with advanced analytical tools, exposure modeling or environmental laboratory workflows.
  • Previous work within regulated industries or multi-disciplinary project teams, and experience mentoring junior staff.
  • Familiarity with regional occupational health services and medical follow-up processes.

Reporting Line & Organisational Context

The Work environment investigation lead typically reports to the Health & Safety Manager and collaborates with environmental manager and HSEQ teams. This role acts as the primary technical contact for project teams and client stakeholders, providing daily updates and ensuring alignment between field activities and organizational health objectives.

Team Structure & Collaboration Interfaces

The role works closely with field technicians, laboratory partners, project managers, HSE teams and medical partners. Daily collaboration with local experts and routine follow up with arbets och miljomedicin are core parts of the role. The lead also interfaces with external regulators and contractors as needed and supports cross-functional teams through briefings and training.

Deliverables & Success Metrics

  • Clear, timely daily report to project team capturing field activities, preliminary findings and recommended next steps.
  • Comprehensive investigation reports including methods, analysed sample results (air and soil), risk assessment and control recommendations.
  • Action-tracked follow-ups with HSE teams and arbets och miljomedicin demonstrating issue resolution and worker protection measures.
  • High-quality chain-of-custody records and laboratory data packages delivered on schedule.
  • Evidence of reduced exposure risks or effective mitigation measures implemented as measured by follow-up sampling and stakeholder feedback.

Tools, Technologies & Domain Context

Familiarity with field sampling equipment (air pumps, samplers, soil corers), laboratory data reporting systems, exposure assessment software and standard health and safety management systems is valuable. Comfort using collaborative communication tools to conduct daily pulse meetings and deliver daily report to project team will support success. The role sits at the intersection of occupational hygiene, environmental monitoring and health surveillance, offering meaningful impact on worker health and organizational resilience.
