Job Title: Head of SHEQ / Country SHEQ Manager

Overview
This senior leadership role is responsible for driving Safety, Health, Environment, Quality, and Security (SHEQ) strategy across country operations. Acting as a key advisor to the Country Head and leadership team, the role ensures compliance with legislation, group standards, and integrated management systems while embedding a strong safety culture and continuous improvement mindset across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Provide functional leadership to the country SHEQ team in alignment with regional and global strategy
- Act as a strategic advisor to the Country Head on SHEQ matters and regulatory compliance
- Develop and implement SHEQ strategy aligned with business objectives and corporate standards
- Drive continuous improvement through Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) and ensure compliance across all sites
- Lead safety implementation plans and SHEQ maturity roadmap across the country
Operational Excellence & Performance
- Ensure consistent application of safety strategy and SHEQ standards across operations
- Monitor and evaluate SHEQ performance using standard tools and KPIs
- Identify risks and implement mitigation plans to support business continuity
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans
- Support operational teams to eliminate SHEQ-related barriers to performance
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with local legislation, regulatory requirements, and group policies
- Oversee hazard identification, risk assessments, and implementation of control measures
- Ensure SHEQ considerations are embedded in projects, acquisitions, and operational changes
- Maintain and continuously improve Integrated Management Systems and processes
- Authority to stop unsafe operations where immediate risk is identified
Capability Development & Culture
- Develop SHEQ team capabilities through training, coaching, and mentoring
- Implement behavioural safety programmes and ensure long-term sustainability
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Deliver SHEQ-related training (e.g. PTW, MOC, PSSR, risk assessments) across the organisation
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Collaborate with internal leadership, operations, and regional/global SHEQ teams
- Build relationships with external bodies including regulators and certification authorities
- Ensure effective communication of SHEQ goals, performance, and lessons learned
- Support introduction of new products and services with appropriate safety processes
Audit & Assurance
- Develop and execute SHEQ audit plans across country operations
- Lead internal and external audits, ensuring findings are addressed and closed out
- Ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Vigilance & Compliance (Medical Gases/Devices)
- Act as Local Vigilance Officer (LVO) for pharmacovigilance processes where applicable
- Ensure compliance with global and local vigilance regulations and reporting requirements
- Manage adverse event reporting, safety data, and regulatory communication
- Oversee training, audits, and compliance for vigilance-related activities
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Minimum 10+ years’ experience in safety, engineering, or operational roles
- Proven leadership experience in SHEQ within industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environments
- Strong track record in implementing safety programmes and driving performance improvement
- Experience working within matrix and multinational environments
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of SHEQ systems, risk management, and audit processes
- Experience with Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
- Expertise in incident investigation, hazard analysis, and safety programme development
- Solid understanding of regulatory compliance and industry standards
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
- Relevant SHEQ / EHS qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in plant operations or engineering environments preferred
