The Opportunity
Join a multidisciplinary Naval Architecture function supporting a range of offshore and floating production projects, including studies, proposals, technology development, Pre-FEED, FEED, and EPCI projects, with a particular focus on FPSO and other floating production assets. This role offers the opportunity to take a leading technical position within an experienced engineering team, with potential progression into a Discipline Lead Engineer role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Naval Architectural engineering and design expertise across offshore and floating production projects.
- Support projects from concept development and feasibility studies through FEED, detailed engineering, and EPCI.
- Perform and review loading, stability, hydrostatic, and related Naval Architecture calculations.
- Support the design and engineering of FPSOs, FSOs, and other floating production units.
- Develop and review loading conditions, stability documentation, and associated technical deliverables.
- Provide technical input into accommodation, deck equipment, and lifesaving equipment design.
- Support shipyard bidding activities, procurement, and technical evaluations.
- Support and participate in inclining experiments and associated activities.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable classification society rules, statutory requirements, and international standards.
- Work closely with other engineering disciplines including Marine Systems, Electrical & Instrumentation, Piping, HVAC, Process, and Technical Safety.
- Provide technical support during project execution and resolve Naval Architecture-related engineering issues.
- Contribute to the continuous development of Naval Architecture standards, procedures, tools, and technical knowledge within the organisation.
- Review technical documentation and deliverables produced by other engineers and designers.
- Support junior Naval Architects and contribute to knowledge sharing within the discipline.
Discipline Lead Engineer Responsibilities
- Lead the Naval Architecture discipline on assigned projects.
- Coordinate and manage a team of approximately 3-4 Naval Architects, together with designers/drafters where required.
- Plan and coordinate discipline engineering activities, deliverables, and resources.
- Manage interfaces with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
- Monitor technical quality, progress, budget, and schedule.
- Act as the key Naval Architecture point of contact within the project team.
- Provide technical leadership and support to the wider project organisation.
Requirements
- BSc, MSc, or equivalent qualification in Naval Architecture.
- Minimum 7 years' relevant Naval Architecture experience.
- Strong experience in both conceptual and detailed Naval Architecture design.
- Proven experience with FPSOs, FSOs, floating production units, or other offshore/floating assets.
- Experience within the Oil & Gas and/or offshore energy industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of stability, loading, hydrostatics, and floating vessel design.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Good understanding of interfaces with Marine Systems, E&I, Piping, HVAC, Process, and Technical Safety.
- Good knowledge of applicable classification society rules and regulations, including DNV, ABS, Bureau Veritas, and/or Lloyd's Register.
- Understanding of relevant international maritime regulations and standards.
- Strong awareness of HSSE requirements within engineering and offshore environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently while also providing technical leadership to others.
Essential Technical Requirement
- Hands-on experience with NAPA is essential for this position.
- Demonstrable practical experience using NAPA within Naval Architecture engineering, particularly in areas such as:
- Stability analysis
- Loading conditions
- Hydrostatics
- Damage stability
- Tank modelling
- Weight and displacement calculations
- Trim and stability assessments
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working on FPSO projects.
- Previous experience with major offshore engineering/EPCI contractors or operators.
- Previous experience supporting shipyard engineering and bidding activities.
- Experience with inclining experiments.
- Previous experience acting as a Discipline Lead Engineer or technical lead.
- Previous experience working within a large multidisciplinary engineering organisation.
