Senior Digital Project Engineer

Job Purpose & Key Accountabilities
The Senior Digital Project Engineer shapes digital ideas into clear, viable, and delivery-ready initiatives. This role combines business analysis, stakeholder engagement, technical understanding, and digital consulting capabilities to help business teams define problems, assess opportunities, and prepare initiatives for successful delivery.
- Lead and oversee early-stage discovery, requirements gathering, process and data analysis, value and cost framing, conceptualization, definition of ready (DoR) assurance, and structured handover into use case delivery teams.
- Oversee Conceptualisation activities performed by third parties, ensuring work progresses to plan, stakeholders are engaged, and deliverables meet quality and governance standards.
- Steward the digital idea backlog, ensuring opportunities are visible, prioritised, progressed, and governed through a consistent framework.
- Engage credibly with subject matter experts and assess engineering-focused opportunities, while supporting digital opportunities across other business domains.
Job Dimensions
- Initiative Responsibility: Lead and oversee several opportunities at different maturity levels, from initial screening through to delivery handover, ensuring progress, quality, and alignment with the conceptualisation process.
- Facilitation and Coordination: Facilitate workshops, drive cross-functional discussions, align stakeholders, and coordinate conceptualisation activities across business and digital teams.
- Stakeholder Management: Engage a broad range of stakeholders across business entities, digital teams, and third parties. Build relationships, manage expectations, resolve ambiguities, and navigate organisational processes to progress opportunities through the digital lifecycle.
- Process Navigation and Governance: Maintain a strong understanding of governance, demand management, procurement, cybersecurity, architecture, data governance, and delivery processes to ensure opportunities are progressed efficiently and through the appropriate pathways.
- Financial Responsibility: Develop and maintain initiative business cases, including cost estimation, income/spend forecasts, value assessments, and funding assumptions.
- Third Party Oversight: Oversee conceptualisation activities delivered by service contractors, ensuring agreed activities, milestones, and deliverables are completed on time and to the required quality. Review contractor outputs, provide direction and challenge, and ensure work remains aligned with business needs, processes, and delivery readiness requirements.
