A growing infrastructure business in the Nordic data centre market is looking to appoint a
Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the development of its operational engineering
function.
This is a senior technical role suited to a mechanical engineering specialist with strong
experience across mission-critical environments. The position will focus on setting technical
direction, improving operational standards, supporting site teams and ensuring mechanical
systems are reliable, efficient and ready for future high-density requirements.
The successful candidate will work across a portfolio of technical facilities and provide
subject matter expertise on cooling, HVAC, heat rejection, water systems, fire systems and
mechanical resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior mechanical engineering support across multiple operational sites.
- Develop and improve technical standards, procedures and engineering governance.
- Review mechanical system performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Support site assessments, audits, technical reviews and operational risk checks.
- Advise on capacity, resilience and suitability of mechanical systems for customer
requirements.
- Provide technical input into upgrades, expansions and new facility developments.
- Support asset management planning, including maintenance strategy, lifecycle
planning, spares and criticality reviews.
- Act as an escalation point for mechanical incidents and support root cause
investigations.
- Use operational data from monitoring and maintenance systems to improve
reliability.
- Support site teams with technical guidance, coaching and knowledge sharing.
- Review vendor proposals, equipment specifications and technical deviations.
- Contribute to efficiency and sustainability initiatives across cooling and mechanical
infrastructure.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in data centres, critical facilities, industrial infrastructure or
another high-availability technical environment.
- Good understanding of mechanical cooling systems, HVAC, chilled water, air
handling, heat rejection and associated infrastructure.
- Experience with high-density environments, advanced cooling technologies or liquid
cooling would be highly beneficial.
- Background in commissioning, performance testing, reliability improvement or
technical assurance.
- Able to support incident reviews, failure analysis and corrective action planning.
- Familiarity with recognised engineering, data centre or asset management standards
would be advantageous.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical
stakeholders.
- Comfortable supporting sites in Norway on a regular basis.
