Maintenance Supervisor (Instrument Biased)

About the Role
This Maintenance Supervisor position is ideal for an instrument-biased leader. Whether you are an experienced supervisor with a control and instrumentation (C&I) background, or a senior instrument technician ready to step into a full supervisory role, you will play a key part in supporting a well-established organisation in the energy sector. You will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance delivery, team performance, and plant reliability on a live, safety-critical site, with a strong focus on instrumentation and control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise a multi-discipline maintenance team of technicians and contractors, with a particular focus on C&I.
- Drive maintenance performance, safety, and compliance standards across the site.
- Plan and manage day-to-day maintenance activities, shutdowns, and outages.
- Act as the technical lead for instrumentation and control systems, including fault-finding, calibration oversight, and reliability improvements.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical activities alongside C&I work.
- Utilise a CMMS to plan, prioritise, and track work, and to drive planned and preventive maintenance.
- Support plant improvement and reliability initiatives.
- Ensure all work meets regulatory, hazardous area, and safety requirements.
- Support reporting, scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
Requirements
- Time-served instrument or C&I technician background, at NVQ/apprenticeship level or above (HNC/HND desirable).
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Supervisor, Team Leader, or Lead Technician.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, plus a working understanding of mechanical and electrical plant.
- Experience in energy, oil & gas, chemical, process, or other high-hazard industrial environments.
- Sound understanding of ATEX/DSEAR and hazardous area requirements (CompEx desirable).
- Experience with shutdowns, maintenance planning, and CMMS systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
