Commissioning Lead (Electrical)

Location: Ras Laffan, Qatar
Work Rotation: 12 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off
Contract Duration: 12 Months

Overview
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support a major onshore oil and gas project in Qatar. The role focuses on commissioning planning, system completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities across complex electrical systems within a large-scale industrial facility environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary commissioning teams, contractors, vendors, and operations personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning planning and execution activities for electrical systems across large oil and gas or LNG facilities
  • Coordinate system completion activities including systemisation, certification walkdowns, punch listing, and PSSR activities
  • Develop and review commissioning procedures, method statements, and check sheets
  • Support completions database management and check sheet allocation processes
  • Execute and supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for high and low voltage electrical systems
  • Coordinate commissioning activities for transformers, switchboards, UPS systems, battery chargers, lighting, earthing, lightning protection, heating systems, and cathodic protection systems
  • Support commissioning of substations and associated control systems
  • Liaise with vendors, contractors, operations teams, and multidisciplinary engineering teams during execution phases
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, international electrical standards, and HSE requirements
  • Participate in troubleshooting, testing, energisation, and system handover activities
  • Support shutdown, brownfield tie-in, and live plant interface activities where required
  • Monitor commissioning progress and support timely resolution of technical issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences
  • Minimum 8 years of commissioning experience within the oil and gas or LNG industry
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory or team coordination experience
  • Strong background in electrical commissioning for large industrial projects
  • Experience with commissioning planning, system completion, and turnover processes
  • Strong understanding of electrical testing and commissioning standards and best practices
  • Experience working with HV and LV electrical systems ranging from 132kV to low voltage
  • Experience with substations, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, battery chargers, and related electrical infrastructure
  • Familiarity with compressors and associated control systems
  • Experience developing commissioning procedures and completion documentation
  • Strong understanding of PSSR processes and technical handover requirements
  • Ability to work effectively within multicultural project teams in demanding site environments

Preferred Experience

  • Experience within LNG or major onshore gas processing facilities
  • Brownfield and greenfield project experience
  • Shutdown and tie-in execution experience
  • Previous experience working in GCC project environments
