Overview

An established civil construction contractor is seeking a Civil Estimator to support the successful delivery of infrastructure and site development projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of civil construction projects, preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates while collaborating closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the tendering and pre-construction process, helping to secure new projects and support successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, permits, and project requirements.

  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for civil construction projects.

  • Solicit and evaluate quotations from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.

  • Attend site visits and gather field information to support estimate preparation.

  • Maintain estimating records and bid tracking databases.

  • Prepare bid submissions and supporting documentation.

  • Manage requests for information, bid clarifications, and tender addenda.

  • Respond to subcontractor and supplier enquiries throughout the bidding process.

  • Analyse subcontractor quotations and prepare bid comparison reports.

  • Support project handover activities to operations and project management teams.

  • Assist in developing scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Prepare bid packages and supporting documentation for project stakeholders.

  • Participate in post-tender negotiations and procurement activities.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

  • Support project teams with cost control initiatives and change order pricing.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement within estimating and pre-construction activities.

Requirements

  • Experience estimating heavy civil, infrastructure, roadway, utility, site development, or transportation projects.

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and tendering processes.

  • Experience performing quantity take-offs and cost analysis.

  • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.

  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.

  • Experience working for a heavy civil construction contractor.

  • Familiarity with industry-standard estimating and quantity take-off software.

  • Knowledge of earthworks, utilities, drainage, roadways, paving, and site development projects.

  • Experience supporting both public and private sector construction projects.
