Project Context

This role supports the successful delivery of a major industrial plant construction and commissioning project in Sweden. The Planning & Progress Control Engineer will be responsible for the development, maintenance, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of erection and commissioning schedules, ensuring project progress is accurately measured, reported, and communicated to project stakeholders.
The position plays a critical role in supporting project management by providing reliable schedule information, progress measurement, recovery planning, and performance reporting throughout the construction and commissioning phases.

Role Purpose

To develop, maintain, and monitor Erection and Commissioning schedules using MS Project, incorporating delivery and milestone data from Primavera P6 project schedules.
Responsible for progress measurement, reporting, S-Curve preparation, schedule analysis, recovery planning, and the issuance of weekly and monthly project progress reports.
Acts as the focal point for construction and commissioning schedule management, working closely with site management, discipline leads, subcontractors, and project controls teams to ensure accurate reporting and effective schedule performance monitoring.

Key Accountabilities

  • Schedule Development & Maintenance
    • Develop and maintain Erection and Commissioning schedules in MS Project.
    • Import and integrate equipment delivery and milestone information from Primavera P6 master schedules.
    • Establish and maintain logical activity relationships and project interfaces.
    • Update project schedules on a regular basis using actual site progress information.
    • Monitor schedule performance and identify potential delays or risks to project execution.
    • Support project management with schedule forecasts and completion projections.
  • Progress Measurement & Monitoring
    • Measure and verify progress across all disciplines including Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Insulation, Commissioning.
    • Monitor subcontractor performance against approved baseline schedules.
    • Track planned versus actual progress and identify variances.
    • Maintain accurate progress measurement systems and reporting databases.
    • Ensure all progress data is validated prior to reporting.
  • Progress Reporting & S-Curve Analysis
    • Prepare discipline-specific progress reports.
    • Issue weekly and monthly project progress reports.
    • Produce progress S-Curves for Project Areas, Disciplines, Subcontractors, and Overall Project Progress.
    • Analyse Actual Progress versus Baseline targets.
    • Highlight schedule deviations and recommend corrective actions.
    • Provide management with clear progress dashboards and reporting metrics.
  • Recovery Planning
    • Develop recovery schedules where required.
    • Assess schedule impacts resulting from delays, scope changes, or execution constraints.
    • Propose mitigation and acceleration strategies.
    • Support construction and commissioning teams in identifying opportunities to recover lost time.
    • Provide schedule scenario analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Coordination & Project Controls
    • Liaise with site management, construction teams, commissioning personnel and subcontractors to obtain accurate progress information.
    • Participate in project coordination meetings.
    • Support project controls and management teams with schedule analysis and reporting.
    • Identify schedule risks, constraints and critical path impacts.
    • Ensure reporting outputs are aligned with project and client requirements.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Update Erection and Commissioning schedules in MS Project.
  • Review delivery and milestone information from Primavera P6 schedules.
  • Collect and validate progress updates from site teams.
  • Update discipline progress measurements.
  • Produce weekly and monthly progress reports.
  • Generate S-Curves and progress performance charts.
  • Perform schedule variance and critical path analysis.
  • Develop recovery plans where required.
  • Attend project coordination and progress meetings.
  • Support project management with planning and reporting activities.
  • Maintain accurate planning and progress control records.
  • Communicate schedule risks and performance trends to management.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience
    • Proven site experience in planning, scheduling and progress reporting for industrial plant construction projects.
    • Several years of experience updating and maintaining Erection and Commissioning schedules.
    • Previous experience working on overseas industrial EPC projects.
    • Strong experience in progress measurement, performance reporting, and project controls.
    • Demonstrated experience producing recovery schedules and schedule analysis reports.
    • Experience supporting multi-discipline construction and commissioning activities.
  • Technical Knowledge
    • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and commissioning activities.
    • Experience monitoring progress across multiple disciplines.
    • Ability to analyse project performance against baseline schedules.
    • Good understanding of critical path methodology and schedule logic development.
    • Experience working with subcontractor progress monitoring and reporting.
    • Familiarity with industrial plant construction and commissioning processes.
  • Software & Systems
    • Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6.
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project.
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Experience preparing dashboards, progress reports and S-Curve analysis.
  • Communication
    • Good written and spoken English.
    • Strong reporting and presentation skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with project management, site teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
    • Capable of working within a multinational project environment.
