QA/QC ENGINEER (MECHANICAL – R/E)
Location: Qatar (Project Site-Based Role)
Overview
A major energy operator is seeking an experienced Mechanical QA/QC Engineer specialising in rotating equipment to support quality assurance and inspection activities across large-scale oil and gas projects. The role focuses on machinery integrity, inspection, installation, commissioning, and reliability of mechanical systems in complex process environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections of mechanical and rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, turbines, engines, and valves
- Conduct visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections to identify defects such as wear, corrosion, and cracks
- Ensure compliance with international standards and codes (API, ASME, ISO, etc.)
- Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance procedures
- Support installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and integrity verification of machinery
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements for reliability and efficiency
- Participate in risk assessments and root cause analysis of equipment failures
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, findings, and corrective action recommendations
- Coordinate inspection, testing, and punch listing activities on behalf of the project
- Ensure contractor compliance with QA/QC procedures, ITPs, and project quality plans
- Witness welding, NDT, PWHT, hardness testing, coating, and other inspection activities
- Monitor fabrication, installation, and testing of mechanical systems including piping, pipelines, tanks, and rotating equipment
- Verify calibration and traceability of inspection and measuring equipment
- Monitor contractor performance and escalate non-conformances where required
- Initiate and follow up on NCRs, corrective actions, and preventive measures
- Support review of QA/QC documentation including WPS, PQR, material approvals, and project dossiers
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 15 years of experience in oil and gas construction projects (greenfield and brownfield)
- Strong knowledge of rotating machinery and mechanical systems in refinery, LNG, NGL, or petrochemical projects
- Experience in GCC projects is preferred
- Knowledge of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies
- Familiarity with CMMS and inspection management systems
- Strong understanding of NDT techniques (UT, MT, PT, RT)
- Certifications (highly desirable):
- ASNT Level II or III (NDT methods)
- API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector)
- API 670 (Machinery Protection Systems)
- ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
- OSHA or NEBOSH safety certification
- ISO 18436-2 condition monitoring (preferred)
- API 686 machinery installation knowledge (preferred)
- Strong ability to work in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments
- Good communication and coordination skills with contractors and engineering teams
- Physically fit for site-based inspection activities
