Lead Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Commissioning Engineer

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Lead Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Commissioning Engineer to oversee commissioning planning, preparation, and execution for complex offshore production systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically advanced projects and lead a multidisciplinary team across onshore and offshore phases.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Planning and Preparation

  • Participate in supplier meetings to define commissioning requirements and expectations.
  • Review supplier documentation and commissioning deliverables, providing technical input and schedule feedback.
  • Develop and review commissioning procedures, boundary definitions, and system deliverables.
  • Identify and resolve gaps in documentation and ensure alignment with project standards.
  • Support the development of commissioning methodologies, schedules, and resource planning.
  • Define the scope of work for third-party services and evaluate technical submissions.
  • Ensure all activities align with performance standards and safety verification requirements.

Commissioning Execution

  • Lead the commissioning team in executing pre-commissioning and commissioning activities for assigned systems.
  • Manage interfaces between construction, pre-operations, and operations teams to ensure seamless transition to start-up.
  • Act as the responsible commissioning engineer for major systems when required.
  • Supervise daily commissioning activities in compliance with company standards and safe work procedures.
  • Coordinate testing, certification, and verification activities with classification societies and client representatives.
  • Oversee risk assessments, toolbox meetings, and ensure all work is carried out under safe systems of work.
  • Manage documentation, records, and system handovers.
  • Provide detailed technical reports and lessons learned for future project reference.
  • Lead offshore commissioning and start-up activities, ensuring performance targets are achieved.

Commissioning Coordination

  • Work closely with construction, mechanical completion, and commissioning teams to ensure timely progress.
  • Liaise with engineering, vendors, and subcontractors to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Participate in regular progress meetings and provide input on technical and execution challenges.
  • Ensure lessons learned and best practices are captured and implemented in future projects.

Discipline-Specific Expertise - Instrumentation and Control

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Instrumentation and Control systems for offshore facilities, including process control and safety systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities and provide technical guidance on complex I&C issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and certification requirements (e.g., ATEX or equivalent).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Control, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Extensive experience in commissioning within offshore oil and gas, FPSO, or related heavy industry environments.
  • Strong background in Instrumentation and Control systems, including process control, safety systems, and system integration.
  • Proven leadership in managing commissioning teams and coordinating multi-discipline activities.
  • Familiarity with commissioning procedures, safety systems, and regulatory compliance.
  • Offshore work experience is highly desirable.

Additional Information

  • This role is based in Kuala Lumpur, with potential offshore travel as required.
