HSE / Environmental Engineer

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE
Contract Type: Permanent

Job Purpose

Undertake HSE inspections, trainings, firefighting, incident/accident investigations, and supervision of HSE services across all activities to ensure implementation of HSE management systems and compliance with local HSE legislations, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise HSE services and implement safe systems of work.
  • Provide advice in accordance with HSE manual and procedures.
  • Conduct Behavioural Safety Audits (BSA) and HSE inspections.
  • Implement fire and emergency plans/drills, including planning, defining scenarios, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Conduct site HSE induction and deliver Fire and HSE training as required.
  • Participate in emergency incident activities and conduct incident investigations.
  • Maintain fire and safety equipment.
  • Assist in operational activities and implement risk reduction measures.
  • Support operation teams to meet site/project HSE targets and objectives.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of risk assessments for operations.
  • Assist with implementation of project environmental plans and studies (e.g., HSEIA, CEMP, EIA).
  • Support adherence to Environmental Management Plans and conduct environmental inspections on project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with CEMP specifications, mitigation control plans, waste management, carbon footprint/emissions calculations, and regulations.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions on environment-related procedures and standards.
  • Conduct audits in compliance with ISO 14001 and legal requirements.
  • Assist with investigation of environmental incidents and provide recommendations.
  • Assist emergency response team for site/project.
  • Provide HSE guidance to line management and determine HSE impacts on project scope, schedule, and strategy.
  • Assess HSE requirements for each work scope and review project FRA's.
  • Follow up on HSE observation close-out status and prepare KPI reports.
  • Screen and interview potential Sub-Contractors for HSE personnel, qualifications, and competency.
  • Verify HSE Plan implementation and employees' competencies in HSE, including Sub-Contractor Management.
  • Lead site HSE campaigns, toolbox talks, meetings, and on-site walkthroughs.
  • Verify Sub-Contractors' HSE performance and implementation of standards.
  • Define HSE milestones, plan and execute audits, and assess leading and lagging indicators.
  • Interface with project stakeholders on all relevant HSE issues.
  • Verify quality HSE induction and training plans are in place.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Science, or equivalent.
  • Certifications: General HSE certificate in NEBOSH / IOSH is preferable.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role and industry.

Competencies

  • Full knowledge and competence in the use of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a multinational work environment.
  • Good computer, presentation, and investigation skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Supervisory potential.
  • Good written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic and one of the common workforce languages is an advantage.
