Deputy EHS Manager – Rotterdam, Netherlands

A leading green hydrogen production company is seeking an experienced Deputy EHS Manager to support the execution of its major renewable hydrogen project in Rotterdam. This is a residential position offering an annually renewable contract with a full-time work schedule.


Responsibilities

  • Provide EHS leadership to support the project site team in achieving construction phase objectives

  • Champion the implementation of EHS processes, ensuring alignment with company and project-specific requirements

  • Support the Site EHS Manager across all EHS functions including emergency preparedness, security, and traffic management

  • Interface with internal stakeholders, contractors, and local authorities to ensure EHS compliance and promote best practices

  • Lead the site EHS team in the absence of the EHS Manager and deliver training in EHS systems and procedures

  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments of contractor safety programs and site conditions

  • Facilitate risk assessments, accident investigations, and root cause analyses as needed

  • Ensure regulatory reporting, incident case management, and tracking of performance indicators

  • Contribute to emergency response planning, security coordination, and overall risk management

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure lessons learned are shared and implemented across the project portfolio


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant HSE field is preferred

  • NEBOSH or equivalent safety certification

  • Minimum 10 years of HSE experience, including at least 5 years in petrochemical or oil & gas environments

  • Proven expertise in construction safety, emergency response, and security management

  • Strong knowledge of international and regional standards including OSHA, Dutch Arbo-law, NFPA, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001

  • Fluent in Dutch and English, with excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

  • Prior experience in the Rotterdam industrial region is highly desirable

  • Air separation or industrial gas project experience is a plus
