Deputy EHS Manager – Rotterdam, Netherlands
A leading green hydrogen production company is seeking an experienced Deputy EHS Manager to support the execution of its major renewable hydrogen project in Rotterdam. This is a residential position offering an annually renewable contract with a full-time work schedule.
Responsibilities

Provide EHS leadership to support the project site team in achieving construction phase objectives

Champion the implementation of EHS processes, ensuring alignment with company and project-specific requirements

Support the Site EHS Manager across all EHS functions including emergency preparedness, security, and traffic management

Interface with internal stakeholders, contractors, and local authorities to ensure EHS compliance and promote best practices

Lead the site EHS team in the absence of the EHS Manager and deliver training in EHS systems and procedures

Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments of contractor safety programs and site conditions

Facilitate risk assessments, accident investigations, and root cause analyses as needed

Ensure regulatory reporting, incident case management, and tracking of performance indicators

Contribute to emergency response planning, security coordination, and overall risk management

Drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure lessons learned are shared and implemented across the project portfolio
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant HSE field is preferred

NEBOSH or equivalent safety certification

Minimum 10 years of HSE experience, including at least 5 years in petrochemical or oil & gas environments

Proven expertise in construction safety, emergency response, and security management

Strong knowledge of international and regional standards including OSHA, Dutch Arbo-law, NFPA, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001

Fluent in Dutch and English, with excellent communication and presentation skills

Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Prior experience in the Rotterdam industrial region is highly desirable

Air separation or industrial gas project experience is a plus
