Overview
An opportunity is available for a Civil / Structural Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting utility-scale substation and transmission projects across the United States. This role involves delivering civil and structural design solutions that support grid modernisation and renewable interconnection projects.
You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, contributing to both design and construction phases of major infrastructure developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform civil and structural design for substations and transmission projects (AIS/GIS facilities)
- Develop foundation and structural design calculations
- Prepare grading, drainage, and erosion control designs
- Design equipment support structures and steel framing systems
- Produce structural steel and concrete design packages
- Coordinate closely with electrical and protection/control engineering teams
- Support design reviews, field walkdowns, and construction-phase engineering support
- Engage with utility clients, EPC contractors, and internal project teams
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards including ACI, AISC, ASCE, IEEE, and local regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of relevant civil/structural engineering experience
- Experience in power delivery projects including substations and transmission infrastructure
- Proficiency with engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD, SAP2000 or equivalent
- Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and industry codes
- Experience working within utility or energy infrastructure environments
- Exposure to EPC project execution and construction support activities
- Familiarity with transmission structure loading and foundation design
- Experience working with utility clients (e.g. AEP, Duke Energy, National Grid or similar) preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence or working towards licensure (within 12 months)
