Role Overview
The QA/QC Engineer (Electrical) will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of quality assurance and quality control activities related to electrical construction and commissioning works. The role requires extensive site experience, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams within large project organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support contractors in identifying, preparing, and submitting QA/QC documentation including ITPs, QCPs, test procedures, and material approval requests in line with the construction programme
- Review and support approval of quality management, engineering, and procurement documentation
- Ensure full implementation of project QA/QC requirements at site, supplier, and subcontractor locations in compliance with specifications and technical standards
- Organise and participate in pre-activity review meetings, quality walkthroughs, and weekly QA/QC meetings
- Perform on-site and off-site surveillance and inspection of electrical installation, testing, and commissioning activities
- Identify actual or potential non-conformances and direct contractors on corrective and preventive actions
- Initiate and manage NCRs, including follow-up on root cause analysis and timely close-out
- Monitor material test certificates, construction records, and traceability documentation
- Verify implementation of preservation management systems
- Ensure inspection and test equipment registers are maintained and calibration records are up to date
- Ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place to track inspection and test status during field erection, testing, and commissioning
- Monitor KPIs, special processes, and personnel performance related to the electrical discipline
- Participate in internal and external audits, including vendor, supplier, and subcontractor audits
- Supervise and coordinate electrical discipline inspectors and QA/QC personnel
- Provide technical guidance and report discipline-related quality issues to the functional supervisor
- Work in construction site and outdoor conditions for a significant portion of the role
- Comply with project safety requirements and promote safe working practices
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a recognised institution
- Certified QMS Lead Auditor (IRCA or equivalent)
- IECEx, CompEx, or equivalent international certification is desirable
- Additional professional memberships or certifications with recognised international institutions are an advantage
- Extensive experience in QA/QC electrical works on major oil and gas, power generation, or renewable energy projects
- Proven experience on large greenfield or brownfield process plants; solar or photovoltaic project experience is desirable
- Strong working knowledge of QA/QC processes, inspection, testing, and acceptance criteria for electrical systems with voltage ratings up to 440kV
- Hands-on experience with electrical equipment and systems including EHV, HV, and LV cables, motors, MCCs, VSDs, switchgear, transformers, generators, earthing systems, lighting, and power distribution systems
- Experience supporting electrical installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities
- Familiarity with international electrical codes, standards, and practices such as IEC, IEEE, BS, ISO, UL, or equivalent
- Experience managing QA/QC teams and coordinating inspection and testing activities
- Ability to resolve complex QA/QC issues arising from technical interpretation or scope clarification
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments
