The Opportunity

An award-winning MEP consulting firm is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer (Mid-Level) to join its growing team in New York City. The role offers the opportunity to lead design projects across diverse sectors, including education, healthcare, corporate workplaces, cultural institutions, and large-scale infrastructure upgrades. The successful candidate will bring strong technical skills in HVAC design, solid project management capabilities, and excellent communication and coordination skills across multi-disciplinary teams. Prior experience working with sophisticated building systems is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical (HVAC) engineering design on projects across multiple sectors.
  • Establish design criteria from proposals, conduct detailed field surveys, document existing building conditions, and prepare load calculations and Basis of Design documents.
  • Develop complete contract documents, including equipment room layouts, ductwork systems, piping distribution, equipment selection, and technical specifications.
  • Review shop drawings, respond to contractor RFIs, manage change orders, perform site inspections, and generate punch lists with limited supervision to ensure design intent is executed accurately.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams, proactively resolving design coordination issues.
  • Assist in project scheduling, resource planning, and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Engage directly with clients and project stakeholders, representing the firm in a professional manner.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • 4-6 years of experience in HVAC design within consulting engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD for MEP design.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 211, NYC Building Code, LEED, NYC ECC).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of documentation requirements for all project phases (SD, DD, CD, and specifications).
  • Ability to coordinate closely with other disciplines and manage multi-trade design integration.

Schedule

  • Full-time role.
  • Monday to Friday; 8-hour shifts.
