Kintec are currently partnered global materials technology and recycling group, with a mission to reduce harmful emissions, power the cars of the future, and give new life to used metals. They are currently recruiting Lead E&I Engineer to be based in Olen, Belgium.
Department description and responsibilities
As a Lead E&I Engineer at Umicore in Olen, you are responsible for managing electrical and instrumentation projects from concept to delivery. You act as the technical discipline lead for E&I within large-scale multidisciplinary industrial investment projects (up to €30 million) and work closely with the Project Manager, who holds overall responsibility for the project. This is not a purely design-oriented role - we are looking for a Lead Engineer who can provide technical leadership and coordination within multidisciplinary projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently lead the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) discipline from A to Z, from feasibility studies through commissioning and handover.
- Make technical decisions regarding materials and applications, taking environmental factors into account.
- Collaborate closely with internal project teams (mechanical, site, design), the Project Manager, and external partners.
- Interpret and assess electrical diagrams and cable calculations (including in Caneco) and provide solutions where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with ATEX regulations throughout all relevant project phases.
- Support projects related to process installations (e.g., battery-related projects such as anode).
- Work from transformer level, focusing on low voltage with basic knowledge of high voltage.
- Prepare technical specifications and tender documents, define and monitor project budgets, and track planning and milestones.
- Correctly interpret SIL, PL, and Exi calculations to ensure functional safety and compliance.
- Correctly interpret Exi calculations in the context of ATEX regulations.
- Be willing to travel occasionally within Europe and Asia for project follow-up.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Master's or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a leading E&I role within process industry projects.
- Minimum 7 years of experience as an E&I Engineer in the process industry.
- Excellent knowledge of industrial instrumentation (pressure, flow, level measurements, etc.).
- Experience with project-based work in the process industry.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with ATEX guidelines and applications.
- Ability to interpret electrical diagrams (e.g., in EPLAN) - drawing skills are not required.
- Experience with Caneco for cable calculations and interpretation.
- Proven experience interpreting SIL safety calculations.
- Basic knowledge of hardware and automation (no programming knowledge required).
