HSE Manager - Industrial Construction Project
Location: South Sweden (site-based)Assignment Type: Contract until approximately April 2027
Start Date: ASAP (must be operational on site from 12 October 2026 for a two-week handover)
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9 hours/day; Saturday 08:00-13:00

Project Context
An experienced HSE Manager is required to support a major industrial construction project in South Sweden. The role involves overseeing health, safety, and environmental activities across the construction site, ensuring compliance with project procedures, legislation, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- HSE Management & Site Supervision
- Oversee and monitor HSE activities across the construction site.
- Ensure construction activities comply with project HSE requirements, applicable legislation, and company standards.
- Monitor the implementation of site safety plans by contractors and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety observations, and audits.
- Identify unsafe acts and conditions and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote safe working practices and a proactive safety culture across the project.
- Client & Contractor Coordination
- Liaise directly with the client's HSE team and management.
- Attend daily coordination meetings with erection contractors.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements.
- Follow up with erection contractors on the preparation and issuance of work method statements and risk analyses for construction activities.
- Verify that approved risk assessments, method statements, and safe working procedures are implemented on site.
- Monitor permit-to-work compliance and contractor safety performance.
- HSE Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare weekly and monthly HSE reports for management and the client.
- Compile and maintain HSE performance statistics.
- Maintain records of inspections, audits, safety observations, and incidents.
- Track corrective and preventive actions and monitor their completion.
- Communicate safety findings, concerns, and recommendations to project management.
- Maintain accurate project HSE documentation.
- Audits, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor compliance with Swedish regulations and site-specific HSE requirements.
- Conduct HSE inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Participate in Toolbox Talks, safety briefings, and coordination meetings.
- Support incident investigations and root cause analysis.
- Identify opportunities to improve HSE performance and working practices.
- Support the achievement of project HSE objectives and targets.
Requirements
- Previous experience working as an HSE Manager on construction sites.
- Senior-level HSE experience within industrial construction, steel plants, manufacturing facilities, energy projects, EPC, or heavy construction.
- Experience managing contractor and subcontractor HSE compliance.
- Experience interfacing directly with client HSE teams and project management.
- Experience preparing HSE reports and performance statistics.
- Previous experience working on international construction projects is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.
- Experience conducting HSE inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Experience reviewing work method statements and risk analyses.
- Familiarity with permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work.
- Understanding of incident investigation and corrective action processes.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience using electronic reporting and document management systems.
- Ability to prepare clear HSE reports and safety statistics.
- Ability to work effectively with multinational teams, contractors, and client representatives.
- Strong organisational, communication, and reporting skills.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Italian language skills are advantageous but not essential.
Assignment Requirements
- Must be available to commence on site on 12 October 2026, with the assignment expected to continue until approximately April 2027.
- An initial handover period of approximately two weeks with the outgoing HSE Manager is required.
