Accounting Director (Contract Position)

Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid Eligible)

Contract Duration: 3 Months (Short-Term Contract)

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Director for a 3-month contract assignment supporting a leading global energy organisation. In this critical role, you will oversee key financial reporting processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in coordination with shared services, FP&A, and audit teams. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership and contribute directly to the performance of the Flexible Generation business unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and monitor the financial close and reporting process, ensuring adherence to a 3-day close timeline.
  • Collaborate with FP&A teams to review profit & loss statements and balance sheets, identifying and resolving unusual trends or variances.
  • Oversee accruals, revenue calculations, invoicing, cash receipts, and manual journal entries within the general ledger.
  • Establish strong working partnerships across FP&A, Treasury, and Tax teams to meet financial deadlines.
  • Review account reconciliations to ensure all balances are properly supported, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Support process controls, technical accounting matters, and audit coordination.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in accounting and financial reporting.
  • CPA certification (or actively working towards CPA).
  • Proficient in SAP and IFRS accounting standards.
  • Previous public audit or public accounting experience highly desirable.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills with the ability to interface with internal teams and external auditors.
  • Ability to operate in a deadline-driven environment with excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Solid understanding of financial controls, risk management, and business operations.
