Start Date: July/August 2026 – 12 months (potential extension)

Shift Pattern: 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off

Description

Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)

  • Serve as a visible safety role model, demonstrating a safety-first approach at all times.

  • Promote a strong safety culture through coaching, engagement, and proactive intervention with rig personnel and geological service providers.

  • Perform routine audits and checks on geological operations, including mud logging units, sample handling, gas detection systems, and compliance with Permit to Work requirements.

  • Monitor and report safety observations related to subsurface operations and upcoming activities, intervening where necessary.

  • Support and align with all contractor and operator HSE initiatives.

Operations

  • Provide on-site geological supervision and assurance throughout drilling operations in accordance with approved well programmes and data acquisition objectives.

  • Ensure geological contractors (mud logging, LWD/MWD, coring, wireline) are fully briefed, competent, and prepared to execute the programme safely and efficiently.

  • Maintain close oversight during critical intervals such as casing points, reservoir sections, coring, logging runs, and drilling hazard zones.

  • Monitor real-time drilling and geological data to identify formation tops, pore pressure trends, reservoir quality, and potential hazards.

  • Ensure high-quality acquisition and processing of geological samples, cuttings descriptions, lag-time calculations, and gas data.

  • Maintain a detailed daily geological log capturing progress, lithology, key events, issues, deviations, and subsurface risks.

  • Report geological non-conformities, unexpected formation behaviour, or significant changes to prognosis through appropriate reporting channels.

  • Lead daily coordination meetings with mud loggers, LWD engineers, drilling supervisors, and service providers.

  • Provide comprehensive written and verbal handovers to incoming Wellsite Geologists and onshore Operations Geologists.

  • Ensure all geological data (cuttings, logs, cores, pressure data, surveys) are quality checked and transferred to shore in line with data management requirements.

  • Coordinate closely with drilling, completions, and production teams where operational interfaces exist.

Senior / Day Representative Responsibilities (Geology)

  • Mentor junior Wellsite Geologists and support competency development.

  • Provide geological leadership and decision support during critical operations such as casing, coring, and logging-while-drilling.

  • Ensure the subsurface Plan of Action is followed and updated based on real-time information.

  • Update daily geological forecasts, operational time estimates, and data acquisition schedules.

  • Deliver accurate and timely reporting to onshore subsurface and drilling teams.

Competences

  • BSc or MSc in Geology, Geoscience, or a related Earth Science discipline (relevant experience may be considered in lieu).

  • Proven experience as a Wellsite Geologist in the Southern North Sea, including environments with shallow gas, complex overburden, HP/HT, or depleted reservoirs.

  • Knowledge of regional stratigraphy, reservoir behaviour, pressure regimes, and common drilling hazards.

  • Strong capability in real-time interpretation of LWD data, mud logs, gas trends, and lithology.

  • Experience using standard geological reporting systems and digital well data platforms.

  • Understanding of offshore regulatory requirements and geological data standards relevant to the region.

Special Requirements

  • Valid offshore survival certification (BOSIET or FOET with CA-EBS).

  • Valid offshore medical certificate.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to brief multidisciplinary teams clearly.

  • Excellent analytical and decision-making capability in time-critical situations.

  • Proactive, collaborative approach with a strong commitment to safety and operational performance.
