Welding Engineer – Contract / Project-Based
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
We are working with a well-established engineering organisation seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to join a high-profile project. This is a key technical role offering the opportunity to support complex fabrication activities across multiple disciplines.
As the Welding Engineer, you will be the go-to expert for technical assurance on all matters related to welding, fabrication, testing, and material assessment. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering and project delivery teams, ensuring all welding activities align with relevant codes, specifications, and best practices.
Key Areas of Responsibility

Provide expert support across:

Welding processes and specifications
-
Fabrication of piping, pressure vessels, structural steel, and forged components

Non-destructive examination (NDE)

Engineering Critical Assessments
-
Core Responsibilities
-
Review and provide commentary on Welding Books (including WPS and PQR, Weld Maps) in line with construction drawings, qualification codes, and specifications.

Assess and comment on Welder Performance Qualifications.

Review NDT procedures (e.g., radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant) for compliance with project and code requirements.

Evaluate qualifications and certifications of NDT operators.

Assess Positive Alloy Material Identification (PAMI) procedures.

Review hardness testing procedures and ensure they meet applicable standards.

Evaluate Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) procedures.

Support additional technical tasks as assigned by the project manager or lead engineer.
Essential Experience and Qualifications

Degree in Engineering with a focus on welding or materials.

Strong understanding of welding qualification codes (e.g., ASME Section IX, API RP 582).

Familiarity with laboratory testing methods (tensile, bend, impact, hardness, chemical analysis).

Experience with pressure vessel and piping codes (e.g., ASME Section VIII Div.1, ASME B31.3).

Knowledge of fabrication workflows including marking, cutting, fit-up, welding, inspection, PWHT, and hydrotesting.

Proficiency in various welding processes such as SAW, SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW.

Good understanding of NDT techniques and relevant standards (e.g., ASME Section V).

CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector certification (or equivalent) required.
