Job Title: Transmission Planning Engineer / Senior Transmission Planning Engineer

Location: Windsor, Connecticut (Hybrid Work Model)

Overview

A leading power system operator is looking for a Transmission Planning Engineer to join its Transmission Planning team, which serves as the Planning Coordinator for New England's interconnected electric transmission system. Multiple positions are open at various seniority levels depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform transmission planning studies to ensure the ongoing reliability and cost-effectiveness of the electric transmission system.
  • Conduct power system simulations to assess transmission system performance under different scenarios.
  • Analyze study results and develop recommendations for system improvements.
  • Engage with regional stakeholders including transmission owners, generation developers, regulators, and industry groups.
  • Provide technical leadership, coordination, and facilitation for regional planning efforts.
  • Develop data inputs, assumptions, methodologies, and procedures for reliability studies.
  • Support NEPOOL, NPCC, and NERC committees and working groups on transmission planning issues.
  • Recommend updates to internal planning processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate results and recommendations.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Support general administrative activities for the Transmission Planning department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems concentration preferred).
  • Proven ability to perform transmission reliability studies, power system simulations, and apply industry planning standards.
  • Strong analytical skills and technical problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and represent the organization professionally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in electric system operations or transmission planning.
  • Familiarity with NEPOOL, NPCC, or NERC standards and guidelines.
  • Proficiency with advanced power system modeling software.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid work schedule (typically 2 days per week onsite).
  • Occasional travel required (up to 5%, some overnight stays).
