Telecom Lead - Offshore / Industrial Projects

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Contract: 36 months (with possibility to extend)

Working Hours: 10 hours per day, 6 days per week

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Telecom Lead to manage telecom engineering activities for large-scale industrial offshore projects. This role will ensure that all technical requirements are met in compliance with project specifications and standardised processes, delivering high-quality engineering and execution support across multi-discipline teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead telecom engineering activities, ensuring deliverables meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Provide guidance to contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure timely completion of telecom design and installation work.
  • Manage purchase orders and coordination with contractors and system vendors, ensuring seamless system integration with minimal disruption to existing operations.
  • Develop work schedules, plans, and recovery strategies to address project delays and support monthly progress reporting.
  • Provide telecommunications expertise to multi-discipline teams to support project execution.
  • Facilitate interfacing between key vendors, EPC contractors, and internal stakeholders to meet quality and schedule objectives.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction and commissioning to ensure compliance with project plans.
  • Capture lessons learned from past projects and ensure knowledge is applied to current work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in telecom engineering, including 4 years in Oil & Gas or offshore industrial projects.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a supervisory or oversight role managing contractors, subcontractors, or vendor personnel.
  • Experience with brownfield engineering projects is preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence with international telecom engineering standards.
  • Proven track record in delivering telecom EPC projects with multiple vendors in international environments.

Technical Skills

  • Hands-on expertise in telecom equipment and systems design, including OTN, UHF TETRA VHF radio, IP networks, access control, CCTV, PAGA, WAN/LAN, routers, switches, servers, and ship/shore communication systems.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area requirements (EExd, EEi, EExe).
  • Proficiency in fibre optic and copper network design, duct banks, cable ladder trays, and transitioning design to construction deliverables.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and coordination skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management systems.
