Senior Technical Consultant – Rail Maintenance

Role Overview
A leading organization in the rail sector is seeking a Senior Technical Consultant to support the management and procurement of heavy maintenance for regional rail vehicles. The role is ideal for technically skilled project leaders with deep experience in railway maintenance, procurement, and supplier management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive tender documentation for heavy maintenance procurement in line with internal processes

  • Conduct market analysis to identify suppliers capable of delivering maintenance services

  • Maintain ongoing dialogue with suppliers to ensure market awareness

  • Lead procurement processes, collaborating with internal teams including vehicle management and procurement support functions

  • Negotiate and secure contracts with suppliers to align with maintenance schedules and operational requirements

  • Oversee project delivery and supplier performance during contract implementation, ensuring timely and compliant execution

  • Manage projects according to internal standards, ensuring transparency, quality, and consistency

Required Qualifications

  • University degree in a technical discipline or equivalent professional experience (5+ years)

  • Proven project management training or substantial relevant experience

  • Documented experience managing refurbishment and maintenance projects for rail vehicles

  • Practical application of recognized project management methodologies

  • Significant procurement experience

  • Broad technical understanding of complex, long-lifespan rail systems

  • Strong knowledge of lifecycle and maintenance needs for technical assets

  • Experience leading, problem-solving, and following up on technical issues

  • Contract management and supplier oversight experience

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering

  • Knowledge of public procurement regulations

  • Negotiation experience and basic knowledge of railway technology

  • Experience with supplier management and technical investigations

  • Familiarity with rail vehicle maintenance and specific vehicle types

  • Understanding of organizational processes for publicly funded operations

  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry guidelines
