Description:

We are looking for a technical author to assist with the migration of various OME documentation to the Client specific templates. This would be SOP's SWD's service manuals, work instructions,  lift plans and associated technical guides. Experience of Vestas/siemens technical documentation an advantage. 

Description & Responsibilities:

Purpose of Role

The Technical Author plays a key role in ensuring clear, accurate, and compliant documentation within the SSOW (Safe Systems of Work) framework. The role is essential to maintaining legal, operational, and safety integrity across the UK West offshore operations by developing, maintaining, and optimising safety-critical work instructions, procedures, and supporting technical content.

This role will interface with technical experts, operational teams, and regulatory stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose documentation that supports efficient and compliant work execution offshore.

Key Responsibilities & Technical Documentation

Create, edit, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including Safe Systems of Work procedures, risk assessments, and work instructions.

Ensure documentation complies with relevant regulatory standards and the Client's safety rules (e.g., OESR).

Collaborate with technical subject matter experts to accurately reflect operational practices and technical requirements.

Translate complex technical and operational information into user-friendly documents for field personnel.

Compliance and Governance

Ensure alignment with UKW and corporate document control procedures, regulatory standards, and ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001, 55001).

Support audit readiness through accurate and traceable documentation.

Monitor and incorporate changes in legislation, standards, and internal governance policies into documentation practices.

Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with operational teams, engineers, QHSE advisors, and project managers to gather inputs for documentation.

Liaise with offshore teams to ensure documents are practical, usable, and up to date with on-site practices.

Engage with Digital & IT and SSOW platform teams to manage documentation within digital platforms and repositories.

Continuous Improvement

Support continuous improvement of SSOW documentation systems and contribute to standardisation efforts.

Participate in feedback cycles and implement enhancements to improve clarity, accessibility, and usability of documents.

Drive innovation in technical writing practices, including structured writing and template standardisation.

Success Criteria/KPI's

Delivery of high-quality SSOW documentation to deadlines and standards.

Compliance with internal and external audit requirements.

Reduction in offshore procedural errors linked to documentation.

Improved feedback and usability ratings from operational end users.

Alignment of documentation with corporate and industry safety standards.

Decision Responsibility

Represent SSOW documentation in operational risk assessments, safety review boards, and procedural change control forums.

Support SSOW Team Leader in governance reviews and documentation audits.

Essential

  • Proven experience as a technical author or similar role in industrial or safety-critical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SSOW principles and safe working practices.
  • Excellent technical writing, editing, and document management skills.
  • Familiarity with offshore operations, ideally in renewable energy, oil & gas, or utilities.
  • Proficiency with digital document control systems and content management platforms.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety and compliance frameworks (ISO, UK HSE legislation).

Desirable

  • STEM qualification preferred; safety certifications desirable (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
  • Understanding of HV and WTSR operations.
  • Experience with lean documentation and structured authoring approaches
