Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Tax Advisor to join a highly respected global energy company's UK team based in London. In this dynamic role, you will prepare UK direct and indirect tax compliance and provide integrated tax advice to support the organisation's UK group. You will respond to HMRC correspondence with oversight from the Tax Manager, coordinate with internal tax teams and external advisers, and work closely with both UK and overseas colleagues to ensure all compliance obligations are met. You will oversee quarterly tax reporting in line with group policy and contribute to monitoring effective tax controls across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely submission of tax returns and compliance filings in the correct format
- Optimise use of available reliefs and allowances for VAT, EU Sales List, other indirect taxes, and Corporation Tax
- Prepare and provide technical input for HMRC enquiries, including indirect tax queries and CTSA matters
- Calculate current and deferred taxes, prepare tax journals, and ensure tax figures reconcile accurately
- Support quarterly VAT returns, indirect tax reconciliations, and customs-related matters for imports and exports
- Prepare final Corporation Tax claims and surrenders; review decision notices and CT assessments
- Assist in audits, including year-end and half-year reviews of tax-related issues
- Contribute to tax planning initiatives and corporate restructuring or optimisation projects
- Provide tax advisory support to the UK business and collaborate with other internal teams
- Maintain strong relationships with fiscal authorities
- Coach and support colleagues within the Tax team, sharing expertise
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environment standards and the company's ethical principles
- Undertake ad hoc duties as required
Requirements:
- University degree or equivalent qualification
- Professional tax qualification (ATT or equivalent) is recommended
- Strong understanding of upstream oil and gas sector tax risks
- Good working knowledge of UK tax issues, especially decommissioning
- Ability to communicate complex tax matters in clear, commercial terms for non-tax stakeholders
- Proficiency in SAP accounting systems, Excel, Word, and OneSource tax software
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively under time pressure
- Strong planning, organisation, and prioritisation skills, with flexibility for changing deadlines
- Willingness to work overtime or occasional weekends during year-end, quarterly close, or exceptional circumstances
