Job Title: Systems Engineer - Bay Replacement Project Preparation

Location: Arnhem, Netherlands (Hybrid: minimum 2 days per week on-site)

Contract Type: 12-month contract (September 2025 - September 2026)

Hours: 32-40 hours per week

Overview

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support a major Bay Replacement Programme aimed at modernising and standardising high-voltage substations. The role involves applying systems engineering practices to ensure effective project design, realisation, and integration. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of energy infrastructure in the Netherlands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and support project engineers in applying systems engineering during design and execution phases
  • Monitor and improve technical requirements in collaboration with asset management teams
  • Work with standardisation teams to record verification and validation results
  • Perform configuration management, impact analyses, and coordinate requirement changes
  • Apply systems engineering techniques such as functional, system, and interface analysis, as well as verification and validation methods
  • Define and structure project breakdowns (system, functional, interface, and work breakdowns)
  • Formulate SMART requirements and verification methods with colleagues and specialists
  • Collaborate with digitalisation teams to streamline requirements, design, and contract processes

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field (HBO/WO)
  • Proven experience applying systems engineering in projects
  • Experience guiding and training teams in systems engineering, ideally within the energy or infrastructure sector
  • Knowledge of Relatics software preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to transfer knowledge
  • Structured and thoughtful working style, focusing on interdependencies and coherence of information
  • Experience with infrastructure or technical organisations is an advantage
  • Must be fluent in Dutch (written and spoken)
  • Willing to work a minimum of 2 days per week on-site in Arnhem, with hybrid options available after induction

  • Candidates must have the right to work in the Netherlands; visa sponsorship is not available
  • A pre-employment screening, including a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG), is required before the start date
  • This role is not open to self-employed contractors (ZZP)
