Substation and Controls Engineer

We are seeking a Substation Protection and Controls Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting utility and industrial clients. This role will focus on controls design for electrical substations and will involve both new construction and retrofit projects.
We are looking for engineers who are professional, accountable, and eager to grow. The right candidate will have strong technical skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to deliver quality work on time.
Responsibilities

Design protection and control systems for electrical substations, including new builds and upgrades

Prepare and review drawings and documents such as one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematic development, wiring diagrams, panel elevations, SCADA, communications, AC and DC diagrams, calculations, equipment specifications, and bills of material

Prepare bid, construction, and as-built documents

Perform cost estimates and develop project proposals

Conduct field visits for pre-engineering, pre-construction, and post-construction inspections

Apply knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE)

Develop proficiency with engineering tools and applications required for client projects

Lead QA/QC reviews and sign off on engineering deliverables

Keep up to date with industry trends and client needs

Identify opportunities to align services with client requirements
Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university

Minimum 5 years of experience in substation protection and controls design

Minimum 5 years of experience using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical

Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Office 365 and SharePoint preferred

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Willingness to travel approximately 15 percent annually

Willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlines when required

Strong problem-solving, organizational skills, and attention to detail

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
