SMP QA/QC Inspector - Queensland, Australia

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced QA/QC Inspector to oversee the fabrication quality of SMP packages for a major construction project. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with quality standards, fabrication plans, and health and safety requirements across multiple steelwork and mechanical packages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor QA/QC of fabrication for SMP packages, including truck loading chutes, steel sets, vent cans, ore cans, grizzly feeder steel & platework, lifting devices, substation steelwork, steel piping spools, skids, cast grizzly panels, and other miscellaneous steel fabrication items.
  • Review and approve Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), welding procedures, and welder qualifications.
  • Verify steel materials and associated mill certificates.
  • Perform 100% visual inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) on welds, including magnetic particle, ultrasonic, liquid dye penetrant, and radiography (if required).
  • Witness painting and protective coating tests (DFT, adhesion, holiday testing, WFT, surface profile).
  • Attend and document trial assemblies at fabricators' workshops; issue punch lists and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Safe Working Procedures (SWP).
  • Facilitate video communications for remote inspection witnessing.
  • Verify fabrication processes follow approved ITPs and management plans.
  • Identify, document, and close out non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Inspect steelwork packaging against packing lists prior to dispatch and issue release certificates.
  • Review and approve Manufacturers Data Reports (MDRs).
  • Produce detailed QA/QC inspection reports and summaries, maintaining inspection quality.
  • Attend project meetings and coordinate with onsite and in-country teams as required.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in QA/QC inspection within steel fabrication or mechanical packages.
  • Strong knowledge of welding standards, NDT techniques, and industrial painting/coating inspections.
  • Experience managing inspection schedules, reporting, and NCR closeouts.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Eligible to work in Australia.
