JOB TITLE: SITE LIFTING SUPERVISOR
LOCATION: PARIMBO, SURINAME
ASSIGNMENT TYPE: Rotational 6/2 (6 weeks on/2 weeks off), based on six (6) worked days per week, with eight (8) hours of work per day
START DATE: ASAP
CONTRACT LENGTH: Annually renewable contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expertise in daily handling and lifting activities on site, including categorizing lifts, identifying hazards and risks, conducting technical reviews (lifting procedures and organization), assessing contractor equipment suitability, leading toolbox talks, post-job debriefings, and reviewing completed work.
- Promote safe handling and lifting operations in line with HSE policies and international standards.
- Review and approve complex lift plans and attend critical lifts.
- Oversee pre-use inspections of forklifts, cranes, and rigging equipment for lifting operations.
- Perform condition checks, assess fitness for purpose of lifting appliances and containers, and coordinate with Inspections Department to evaluate utilization.
- Deliver expert advisory support on lifting and handling matters.
Specific Duties
- Conduct random inspections of road transportation contractors to ensure compliance and road transport safety between sites.
- Report all unsafe conditions and unsafe work practices, correcting them immediately.
- Track and submit Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) key performance indicators.
- Assess handling and lifting organization within the organization, conduct annual reviews, participate in handling and lifting audits, review/reissue generic lift plans, and maintain up-to-date procedural documentation.
- Review equipment maintenance systems for cost-effectiveness.
- Assess competencies and propose improvements for staff involved in handling and lifting operations.
- Contribute to the development of training plans and provide coaching and mentoring as needed.
HSE Responsibilities
- Advise logistics operations on workplace safety, health, and environmental compliance, including infectious disease protocols.
- Report high-potential incidents and incidents to headquarters.
- Advise on security concerns as needed.
- Conduct daily inspections of docks and worksites, and perform internal/third-party audits as required.
- Prepare and facilitate Job Safety Analyses and pre-job hazard analyses in collaboration with vendors/contractors.
Goals & Key Deliverables
- Daily supervision and technical oversight of all site lifting/handling activities, including hazard identification, risk assessment, toolbox talks, and post-job debriefs.
- Review and approval of complex lift plans; attendance at critical lifts.
- Inspect and validate lifting appliances, rigging gear, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment for condition and suitability.
- Ensure compliance with HSE policy, international lifting standards, and safety practices.
- Conduct safety inspections for road transportation activities.
- Report unsafe acts, track operational/HSE performance indicators, and submit regular reports.
- Support audits, keep lifting procedures/documentation current, and reissue lift plans.
- Assess and improve staff competence, provide coaching, and help develop training.
- Advise on safety best practices, prepare risk assessments, and support audits.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years' experience in project and operations lifting
- In-depth knowledge of handling/lifting appliances and operations
- Suitable professional background such as Rigger, Rigger Foreman, Rigging Supervisor, Lifting Supervisor, or Lifting Superintendent
- Experience working to international standards (BS, LOLER, OPITO)
- At least 5 years' experience in offshore operations in the oil & gas industry with heavy lifts (subsea, drilling, etc.)
- Experience in training and coaching
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering
- Relevant qualifications (LEEA, EAL, CPA, OPITO)
