Site Instrument Engineer – Permanent

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Site Instrument Engineer to join a forward-thinking and safety-conscious industrial operation based in Farnborough. This role offers the chance to make a tangible impact on process performance, safety systems, and control infrastructure across a dynamic site.
As the Site Instrument Engineer, you’ll play a key role in identifying and delivering control and instrumentation (C&I) improvements, from concept through to implementation. You’ll be a driving force in ensuring site-wide functional safety compliance, leading instrumentation projects, and providing deep technical expertise across a range of plant activities.
Key Responsibilities

Identify plant improvement opportunities and develop project scopes aligned with business goals

Design and deliver upgrades to process control and safety instrumented systems

Manage C&I project budgets, including both capital and operational expenditure

Lead and execute small-scale instrumentation projects from start to finish

Take ownership of site functional safety programmes and ensure compliance

Develop and maintain SIS documentation, and perform SIL verifications

Specify, test, and commission upgrades to control and safety systems

Ensure compliance of hazardous area instrumentation with regulatory standards

Support troubleshooting and provide technical leadership for resolving plant issues
Key Requirements

Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and external parties

At least 8 years of experience in instrumentation and control design

Knowledge of hazardous area design practices; CompEx 12A & 12B qualifications desirable

Experience across the full engineering lifecycle, from design to commissioning

Good understanding of control system programming principles and industry standards

Proven involvement in risk management methodologies including HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, and RAMS

Experience coordinating with suppliers and managing procurement processes

Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to lead engineering teams in complex environments
