Job Title: Senior Welding & QAQC Engineer - SMP Coordinator / NDT Oversight

Location: China (Tianjin, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Qingdao) - workshop and occasional site visits

Type: 1-3 year contract with potential extension

Working Schedule: 8-10 hours per day, 5-6 days per week

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Welding & QAQC Engineer to coordinate and supervise QAQC activities for structural, mechanical, and piping workshop fabrication while providing technical welding and metallurgy engineering expertise and overseeing NDT services (LPT, MT, UT). The role ensures compliance with project standards, welding codes, and client requirements, while managing in-country QAQC inspectors and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate in-country QAQC Inspectors, assign tasks, and monitor progress.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and reviews of welding, fabrication, and painting processes.
  • Develop, review, and approve welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and ensure compliance with welding codes and standards (AWS, AISC, ASME, EN, ISO).
  • Provide technical guidance on welding metallurgy, consumables, and high-strength steel/aluminum fabrication.
  • Conduct failure analysis, root-cause investigations, and provide corrective actions.
  • Coordinate NDT activities, review reports (LPT, MT, UT), and ensure timely reporting within 24-48 hours.
  • Maintain NDT equipment calibration and certification; provide technical guidance to NDT personnel.
  • Ensure workshop and site compliance with project-specific standards (OT, QatarEnergy, etc.).
  • Prepare and review inspection reports, NCRs, and punch lists; follow up on closeouts.
  • Participate in safety meetings, technical workshops, and project reviews.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and inspectors in welding, QAQC, and NDT practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Welding Engineering.
  • Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or equivalent.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI / SCWI) or equivalent CSWIP 3.1/3.2.
  • NDT Level II/III certification in LPT, MT, and UT.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of combined experience in welding engineering, QAQC supervision, and NDT inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of high-strength steels, stainless steel, and aluminum welding.
  • Familiarity with project-specific standards (OT, QatarEnergy, AISC, AWS, ASME, ISO).

Skills and Competencies

  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  • Hands-on experience with welding procedures, heat treatment, and fabrication controls.
  • Proficient in inspection software, NDT reporting systems, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
  • Understanding of safety, health, and environmental standards in the workplace.
