Job Title: Senior Safety & Risk Engineer

Location: Office-based, Doha, Qatar
Contract Type: 1-Year Secondment Contract (Extendable)
Work Pattern: 5 days on / 2 days off, 8-10 hours per day

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Safety & Risk Engineer to contribute to a major oil & gas project. This position requires deep technical expertise in safety and risk design within a brownfield environment and offers exposure to a wide range of complex engineering challenges across multiple project stages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety and risk engineering for projects and plant modifications from front-end development through execution, commissioning, and start-up.

  • Deliver safety and risk assessments across the full project lifecycle including feasibility, concept studies, FEED, detailed design, and EPIC execution.

  • Lead and conduct hazard identification and risk management studies such as HAZID, HAZOP, Inherent Safety Reviews, Concept Option Selection, and Formal Safety Assessments.

  • Carry out Fire and Explosion Analysis, Fire Protection Studies (active and passive systems), and Fire & Gas Detection System design.

  • Develop Safety Critical Elements and Performance Standards.

  • Conduct Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Safety Case development, Reliability Studies (RAM, FMEA), and SIL Assessments.

  • Apply safety management principles in conducting risk assessments, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.

  • Facilitate HAZOP and HAZID workshops, driving comprehensive hazard identification processes.

  • Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams to deliver detailed design packages.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognised institution.

  • Minimum 12 years of safety design experience within the onshore/offshore oil & gas industry, specifically in brownfield environments.

  • Recent experience working within a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is essential.

  • Proven experience across various project phases: feasibility, concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, and EPIC execution.

  • Advanced knowledge in:

    • Active and Passive Fire Protection Design

    • Fire and Gas Detection System Design

    • Hazardous Area Classification

    • Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA)

    • Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment (FERA)

    • Reliability/Availability Studies (RAM, FMEA)

    • Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Assessments

  • Strong facilitation skills for conducting HAZOP and HAZID workshops.

  • Experience preparing comprehensive Safety Cases for offshore and onshore facilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
