Overview
A leading engineering services organisation supporting the power and utilities sector is seeking an experienced Senior Substation Protection and Control Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to complex transmission and substation projects across high-voltage networks.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and development of protection and control systems for substations and transmission infrastructure up to 500 kV. This position is well suited to a technically strong engineer who enjoys working on detailed electrical designs while collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver relay protection and control engineering for high-voltage substation and transmission projects up to 500 kV.

Prepare and develop engineering deliverables including one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Produce control and relaying panel layouts, specifications, and wiring documentation.

Design and integrate SCADA system interfaces including RTUs and HMIs.

Develop auxiliary systems including battery systems, chargers, AC and DC distribution panels, and related infrastructure.

Perform conduit and cable sizing and prepare project bills of materials.

Apply relevant industry standards and electrical codes when completing engineering designs.

Provide technical support to internal teams and external stakeholders as required.

Participate in project planning, concept development, and engineering execution activities.

Support pre-bid technical discussions and assist with proposal preparation and project cost estimates.

Perform technical analysis of substation systems including protection schemes, control circuits, equipment arrangements, grounding systems, lighting, and related electrical infrastructure.

Prepare new engineering drawing packages, update existing designs, and complete as-built documentation.

Conduct electrical calculations related to power systems, grounding, and auxiliary systems.

Review design documentation and ensure engineering quality across substation design packages.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical substation engineering.

Approximately 10 or more years of experience in substation protection and control design is preferred.

Professional Engineer licence is preferred but not mandatory.

Strong experience producing and reviewing substation design drawings and engineering documentation.

Familiarity with applicable electrical codes and industry standards used in utility transmission and substation projects.

Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering complex infrastructure projects.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.

Strong analytical, technical problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

Experience using engineering design software, CAD systems, and common business applications.
