General Manager, Procurement

Overview
A leading player in the renewable energy sector is seeking a highly experienced General Manager, Procurement, to oversee procurement operations across wind, solar, and energy storage projects. This is a key strategic role requiring expertise in vendor management, commercial negotiations, contract execution, and post-award contract administration. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting project delivery through efficient procurement practices and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Vendor Relationship Management

Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, particularly for large-scale renewable energy projects.

Build and manage a robust vendor database aligned with current and future business needs.
Contract and Procurement Cycle Management

Lead end-to-end procurement activities including vendor identification, engagement, negotiation, and contract execution.

Oversee contract discussions and finalisation, coordinating with internal legal teams.

Manage ongoing and new contracts, ensuring compliance with timelines, scope, and commercial obligations.
Post-Award and Project Support

Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align material planning and procurement schedules with project delivery requirements.

Support project costing and scheduling during the bid and execution phases.
Vendor Development and Compliance

Develop alternative vendor sources, particularly for critical imports and high-value equipment.

Validate vendor credentials and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

Evaluate vendor performance to drive cost efficiency and operational improvement.
Commercial and Statutory Oversight

Manage procurement-related statutory compliance and insurance matters.

Oversee commercial terms, including budgeting, taxation, and claims.
Contractual Communication and Risk Management

Lead all contractual communications with suppliers and EPC contractors.

Track obligations, ensure clarity on deliverables, and support resolution of contractual issues.
Strategic Execution

Design and implement procurement strategies tailored to different work packages within renewable energy projects.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications

Bachelor of Technology in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.

Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPPS, CPP, or PMP are preferred.
Experience

Minimum of 12 years in procurement within energy or utility projects.

Proven experience with OEMs and suppliers for large-scale renewable energy (wind, solar, storage) projects.

Strong grasp of finance, budgeting, taxation, and commercial negotiations.

Experience in tenders, bidding, and insurance management.

Business-level proficiency in Japanese is essential.
