Senior Process Engineer – R&D & Scale-Up
Location: Nottinghamshire (UK)
Type: Permanent
Industry: Clean Tech / Carbon Reduction / Process Engineering

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity to join a pioneering, research-led organisation at the forefront of carbon reduction technologies. This innovative company is developing breakthrough solutions aimed at decarbonising industrial materials — backed by global manufacturing leaders, academic partners, and major research institutions.

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will play a key role in scaling up novel technologies from the laboratory to pilot and production scale. If you’re passionate about climate change, materials innovation, and hands-on process engineering, this role offers a rare chance to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimise lab- and pilot-scale experimental systems for novel CO₂ utilisation processes.

  • Lead process development activities supporting scale-up from concept through to commissioning.

  • Analyse test data, identify process bottlenecks, and implement technical improvements.

  • Collaborate closely with chemists, materials scientists, and cross-functional teams.

  • Support preparation of technical proposals for grant funding (e.g. Innovate UK, Horizon Europe).

  • Document experimental procedures, analyse results, and contribute to technical reports and publications.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

  • Experience in early-stage process development — ideally having worked on projects from concept/design through commissioning.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary R&D environments.

  • Proactive, hands-on mindset with a passion for technology that delivers real-world climate benefits.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in CO₂ capture, utilisation, or carbon reduction technologies.

  • Familiarity with cement, concrete, or construction-related industrial processes.

  • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, pilot plant operation, or process simulation tools.

  • Experience contributing to sustainability-focused innovation or publicly funded research projects.
