Senior Planning Engineer
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Contract: 1-year fixed-term, renewable subject to performance and project requirements

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to lead planning and scheduling activities on major engineering projects. This role involves managing a team of planners, defining project objectives, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex EPCIC projects. The position is ideal for someone who thrives on structure, precision, and strategic thinking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop project schedules aligned with execution strategies.

  • Plan resources and activities to mitigate risks and optimise efficiency.

  • Define and implement planning and scheduling systems, including methods, procedures, time-schedules, physical progress tracking, and reporting dashboards.

  • Conduct contract reviews and provide management with advice on contractual qualifications.

  • Establish realistic and achievable project durations during bid and execution phases.

  • Maintain, update, and improve planning and scheduling systems throughout project life cycles.

  • Define project breakdown structures and ensure timely work fronts and deliverables.

  • Obtain client approval of progress or milestone achievements to enable invoicing.

  • Raise awareness among project teams about milestones, durations, and critical paths.

  • Monitor project status, identify delays, and propose corrective measures.

  • Anticipate opportunities for extensions of time and prepare relevant justifications.

  • Capture lessons learned and feedback to improve planning methodologies.

  • Manage and mentor planning engineers or executives, typically on medium to large EPC projects.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in leading planning and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, Excel).

  • Knowledge of collaborative tools and digital reporting systems is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with advanced planning tools and 4D planning is desirable.

Requirements

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent qualifications with substantial project execution experience.

  • 10–15 years’ experience in planning and scheduling within the oil and gas sector.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of EPCIC work processes for offshore facilities.

  • Demonstrated ability in schedule forensic analysis and schedule risk analysis.

  • Strong management and leadership capabilities.

  • Proven expertise in the application of planning and scheduling tools.
