Senior Piping Engineer
Location: Qatar
Work schedule: 5 days per week office based
Contract duration: 12-months
Role Overview
The Senior Piping Engineer provides expert advisory, design, and review services for mechanical and piping engineering scopes of work. This includes preparing conceptual designs, reviewing basic and detailed engineering deliverables, supporting modifications or new facilities, and evaluating third-party contractors where required.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Authoring & Compilation
- Review, compile, and author engineering scopes of work, design basis, and deliverables.
- Develop in-house designs, including feasibility studies, concepts, and FEED packages.
Management of Change
- Review mechanical equipment calculations (HVAC, piping, rotary equipment) for modifications and new projects in line with change management processes.
Conceptual Studies, FEED, and Detailed Engineering
- Review pre-feasibility and concept studies, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Oversee FEED, Detailed Engineering Design (DED), Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning deliverables developed by consultants.
- Ensure designs meet construction, safety, and quality standards.
Engineering Deliverables & Compliance
- Review and approve all mechanical and piping engineering deliverables, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
- Conduct site visits to ensure contractors adhere to QA/QC requirements; issue non-conformance reports as necessary.
Third-Party Consultation & Technical Support
- Interface with consultants, contractors, suppliers, vendors, inspection agencies, and authorities to ensure designs are fit for purpose.
- Provide technical guidance on mechanical engineering issues related to bidder evaluations, material requisitions, method statements, pre-commissioning, and commissioning procedures.
Testing & Inspections
- Review and witness Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT).
- Inspect completed equipment installations for compliance with project specifications.
Design Review & Risk Assessment
- Contribute mechanical engineering expertise to design reviews, value engineering sessions, risk assessments, and HAZOP/HAZAN studies.
Standards, Policies, and Continuous Improvement
- Review and update mechanical engineering standards to ensure compliance with international and local codes.
- Support the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and controls.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, cost reduction, and productivity, following international best practices.
Safety, Quality, and Environmental Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all safety, quality, and environmental procedures, instructions, and controls to guarantee employee safety, product/service quality, and environmental compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- 5 years' experience in mechanical and piping engineering within oil & gas, petrochemical, or industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated experience with conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, and site support.
- Knowledge of international engineering standards, codes, and QA/QC practices.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, piping, and rotating equipment.
- Experience liaising with third-party contractors and suppliers.
- Proficient in design review, risk assessment, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
