Overview:
A leading international energy operator is seeking a Senior Petroleum Economist with strong reservoir engineering expertise to lead strategic investment decisions across oil, gas, and energy transition projects. Role Summary:
You will provide economic insight and reservoir-engineering validation for upstream and energy transition projects, supporting multi-billion-dollar investment and portfolio decisions. The role spans oil and gas, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), hydrogen, and other transition initiatives. You will work closely with senior leadership, global consultants, and financial partners to optimise asset value and portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead economic evaluations for upstream assets, unconventional reservoirs, and CCUS initiatives.

Conduct scenario, sensitivity, and probabilistic analyses to guide investment and risk decisions.

Develop economic models to optimise NPV, PVR, and capital efficiency.

Support reserves-based lending (RBL) and asset valuation processes.

Assist in acquisitions and divestments (A&D) activities including reserves evaluation and development screening.

Apply reservoir engineering principles to validate project assumptions and production forecasts.

Deliver portfolio rankings, long-term strategic models, and governance frameworks.

Drive cost optimisation and innovation initiatives to maximise operational value.
Qualifications and Experience:

Degree in Petroleum or Reservoir Engineering (Master’s preferred).

Minimum 10 years’ experience in petroleum economics with strong reservoir engineering background.

Proven experience in reserves reporting, asset valuation, and portfolio optimisation.

Strong understanding of fiscal regimes, economic modelling, and risk analysis.

Familiarity with economic and reservoir modelling software (proprietary software references removed).

Experience in RBL processes and cross-functional stakeholder collaboration.
