Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Umbilical & Power Cable
Location: Doha, Qatar (with possible relocation to EPC offices or offshore site visits)
Contract Type: Fixed-term until October 2029
Working Schedule: 5 days per week
Role Overview
An established engineering organisation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expert experience in subsea umbilical and power cable design and engineering. The role involves engineering design, project delivery support, and coordination with EPIC contractors and vendors for large-scale offshore projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering activities for subsea umbilicals and power cables
- Manage and coordinate EPIC contractors/vendors in discipline-specific activities for large offshore projects
- Apply knowledge of relevant design codes and standards (ISO, API, Shell DEPs) to ensure compliance
- Review manufacturing, testing, and project documents for quality, safety, and adherence to design basis
- Provide technical recommendations for approval or rejection of deviations and change requests
- Resolve technical challenges and liaise with other disciplines and external stakeholders
- Support subsea umbilical and power cable installation, including loadout, crossing, J-tube pulling, and shore pulling operations
- Participate in subsea pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 15 years post-graduate experience in the Oil & Gas industry
- At least 10 years of direct experience in subsea umbilical and power cable design and engineering
- Experience working on at least 2 major offshore EPIC projects with responsibility for umbilical and power cable packages
- Project Management Team (PMT) or Project Management Consultant (PMC) experience
- Deep knowledge of subsea umbilical and power cable manufacturing, testing, and installation procedures
- Familiarity with subsea umbilical crossing design, pre-commissioning, and commissioning operations
- Previous experience with an umbilical manufacturer is advantageous
