Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Subsea Umbilicals & Power Cables

Job Purpose:
An international offshore energy company is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the engineering of subsea umbilicals and power cable systems for offshore developments. The role will cover all phases of engineering from concept through FEED, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and start-up.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical design and engineering services for subsea umbilical and power cable systems for assigned projects, ensuring quality, schedule, cost, and safety compliance.

  • Conduct engineering activities including in-house site surveys, concept definition, FEED, detailed design, and commissioning.

  • Ensure adherence to technical standards, environmental requirements, safety policies, and engineering best practices.

  • Plan and coordinate the activities of a multi-discipline engineering team to deliver timely and accurate technical services.

  • Coordinate engineering designs, review multi-disciplinary work scopes, and ensure comprehensive project coverage.

  • Develop engineering deliverables and scope of works for FEED and detailed design stages.

  • Review and approve method statements developed by contractors and liaise to resolve technical issues.

  • Contribute to project schedules for in-house engineering activities and support external contractor schedules to ensure effective project delivery.

  • Evaluate technical bid packages for scope compliance and review contractor documents.

  • Review and evaluate contract changes or variations against approved guidelines and standards.

  • Act as the focal point for technical matters on subsea facilities and provide guidance across engineering teams.

  • Support the integration of subsea facilities with topside and drilling systems, ensuring technical integrity.

  • Provide technical support onshore and offshore during construction, commissioning, and start-up.

  • Mentor and provide training to less experienced subsea engineers within the organisation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering; Chartered Engineer / Professional Engineer status is advantageous.

  • Minimum 15 years post-graduate engineering experience, with at least 10 years in the oil and gas or offshore sector.

  • Strong knowledge of subsea umbilicals, power cable systems, and associated control systems.

  • Experience across all project phases: feasibility, concept optimisation, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and start-up.

  • Knowledge of offshore pipeline and subsea engineering standards and design codes.

  • Proven ability to manage technical quality, schedule, and cost within multi-project environments.

  • Strong leadership skills, able to coordinate multi-discipline teams and provide technical direction.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.

  • Willingness to be based in Tianjin, China, with occasional travel to offshore or supplier locations.
