Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Material & Corrosion

Location: Doha, Qatar (with potential relocation to EPC offices)

Contract Type: Fixed-term until March 2029

Working Schedule: 5 days per week

Role Overview

An established engineering organisation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialising in Material & Corrosion for offshore Oil & Gas projects. The role involves material selection, corrosion management, and technical oversight for large-scale EPIC projects, including both greenfield and brownfield developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead material selection and corrosion management activities, particularly for wet-sour service applications
  • Review, approve, and provide recommendations on technical deliverables, deviations, and change requests
  • Manage EPIC contractors and vendors within the Material & Corrosion discipline for large-scale offshore projects
  • Liaise with other engineering disciplines and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges
  • Support greenfield and brownfield offshore projects, including central processing platforms (CPP) and gas compression facilities
  • Conduct corrosion assessments for equipment and piping against H2S, CO2, chlorides, and other threats to metallic and non-metallic materials
  • Oversee internal/external coating and painting, cathodic protection, corrosion monitoring, and welding requirements for equipment, piping, and structural steel
  • Apply engineering best practices to non-metallic materials, including GRP piping systems, in compliance with relevant codes and standards
  • Ensure compliance with Shell DEPs, MESC, and other applicable industry standards

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 15 years post-graduate experience in the Oil & Gas industry
  • At least 10 years of direct experience in Material & Corrosion Engineering
  • Experience in at least 2 major offshore EPIC projects (greenfield and brownfield)
  • PMT / PMC experience managing contractors and vendors in discipline-specific activities
  • Expert knowledge of material selection, corrosion protection, and monitoring techniques for offshore applications
  • Familiarity with Shell DEPs, MESC, and relevant codes and standards

  • Ability to review technical deliverables and ensure compliance with project and industry standards
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience with coatings, cathodic protection, corrosion monitoring, and offshore non-metallic materials
