Overview
An established energy operator is seeking a Control and Instrumentation Engineer to provide technical expertise and guidance across operational, project, and delivery teams. The role supports regulatory compliance and ensures assets are designed, constructed, operated, and maintained as fit for purpose.

This position plays a key role in technical assurance, standards development, risk management, and mentoring engineers while contributing to strategic engineering decision-making across the business.

Role Purpose

  • Provide discipline-specific technical expertise to operational and delivery teams

  • Ensure new assets and modifications comply with internal engineering standards

  • Develop and maintain internal engineering standards, procedures, and best practices

  • Influence external standards to align with long-term engineering strategy

  • Support strategic engineering decisions through expert technical input

  • Proactively ensure statutory and regulatory compliance

  • Assess asset risks and the effectiveness of controls and mitigations

  • Guide and mentor developing engineers

Key Accountabilities – Control and Instrumentation

  • Provide expert knowledge to support statutory and regulatory compliance, including Electricity at Work, Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres, and Equipment and Protective Systems

  • Lead the development and application of statutory, regulatory, and company engineering standards and ensure required documentation is in place

  • Provide technical review and sign-off of risk assessments and hazard mitigation plans, including LOPA and SIL

  • Participate in incident investigations and ensure lessons learned are communicated and action plans delivered

  • Support research and technology development related to engineering assets

  • Provide technical expertise to innovation projects and field trials

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety and business performance

  • Develop, recommend, and implement improvements to engineering processes to enhance efficiency and service quality

Key Requirements

  • Strong experience within control and instrumentation engineering in the oil and gas or energy sector

  • Sound knowledge of UK statutory and regulatory frameworks

  • Experience supporting asset lifecycle activities, including design, modification, and operation

  • Proven ability to assess risk and provide robust technical assurance

  • Experience mentoring and guiding engineers

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
