Senior Environment Engineer

Location: Qatar

Job Purpose

The Senior Environment Engineer is responsible for implementing and overseeing environmental management activities for major projects under the guidance of the HSE Manager. The role ensures all engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities comply with environmental policies, legal requirements, and project-specific standards.

Key Accountabilities

Management Systems

- Awareness of integrated management systems (Quality; Environment; Occupational Health & Safety; Responsible Care; Energy Management; and Product Stewardship).

- Comply with all relevant policies and procedures of the integrated management systems.

- Ensure HSEQ requirements take priority and are implemented in daily project activities.

Strategy

- Awareness of the organization's vision, mission, strategic objectives and core values.

Adherence

- Be aware of project-specific HSE and Quality requirements and comply with all related policies.

- Ensure full implementation and adherence to HSE regulations and proper follow up of procedures in all areas of work.

- Follow project management system procedures and ensure strict compliance.

Managing Activities

1. Environmental Compliance & Awareness

- Monitor contractor activities for compliance with regulations.

- Ensure implementation of project-specific environmental standards and best practices.

- Promote environmentally responsible behavior through campaigns and site engagement.

2. Risk Management & Monitoring

- Identify and assess environmental risks, especially for ammonia and urea production.

- Collect and analyze monitoring data (air, noise, water, soil) to ensure compliance.

- Recommend and track preventive and corrective actions based on results.

3. Contractor Oversight

- Review contractor HSE procedures, focusing on environmental controls and mitigation.

- Coordinate environmental campaigns (e.g., waste segregation, spill prevention).

- Track contractor responses to environmental issues and ensure timely resolution.

4. Coordination & Support

- Support the HSE Manager to achieve full compliance, focusing on environmental performance.

- Participate in safety walks, inspections, and audits, providing environmental recommendations.

- Ensure all contractual environmental obligations are met and report deviations.

5. Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain comprehensive environmental records: permits, inspection, monitoring, and incident reports.

- Prepare and submit compliance reports to management and authorities as required.

- Contribute to HSE dashboards and reports with relevant KPIs and highlights.

6. Engineering Development & Cross-Functional Reviews

- Participate in engineering development to ensure environmental considerations are included.

- Contribute to cross-functional reviews such as QRA, HAZID, HAZOP, and EIA.

- Provide expert input on identifying and mitigating risks early.

7. Environmental Permitting & Consent to Operate

- Support contractors in obtaining environmental permits from authorities.

- Set up systems to monitor permit conditions and commitments.

- Ensure timely compliance with permits for smooth project operations.

Project Information Manual (PIM)

- Document and submit lessons learned as per procedures.

- Identify, report, and follow up on risks within responsibility areas.

Educational Qualification & Experience

- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

- Professional certification required.

- Minimum 10 years' relevant work experience, with at least 3-5 years in major projects.
