Senior Engineer, Piping Material
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (with possible short-term site assignments)
We are currently supporting a leading offshore engineering company in their search for a Senior Piping Material Engineer to join a major oil and gas project. This is a key role responsible for delivering piping material engineering activities from specification development through to supplier coordination and technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Role Purpose
As a Senior Piping Material Engineer, you will take ownership of all piping materials-related engineering tasks within assigned projects. This includes developing key deliverables, resolving technical challenges, and supporting project execution from early design through to offshore construction and commissioning. You will also mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvement initiatives across the engineering function.
Key Responsibilities

Independently manage piping material engineering activities and deliverables across all project phases

Interpret technical specifications, industry codes, regulatory standards, and classification requirements to develop fit-for-purpose piping solutions

Perform pipe wall thickness calculations using applicable design codes

Develop project-specific piping material and valve specifications by adapting standard templates

Prepare insulation and flange management specifications to meet project needs

Generate comprehensive bills of materials for all piping-related components including bulk items, valves, supports, gaskets, and fasteners

Prepare technical data sheets for piping specialty items, incorporating process inputs where required

Draft technical requisitions and conduct detailed bid evaluations to ensure supplier compliance with project specifications

Facilitate supplier kick-off meetings, oversee documentation reviews, and ensure alignment with engineering teams

Liaise with suppliers, resolve technical issues, and attend FATs when required

Provide site-based and remote support to construction and commissioning teams, including technical guidance and troubleshooting

Collaborate with lead engineers to capture lessons learned and support continuous improvement processes

Ensure compliance with company HSEQ and Code of Conduct standards at all times
Skills & Experience Required

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; alternatively, a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with substantial relevant experience

Minimum 12 years’ experience in piping engineering for the oil and gas industry (preferably offshore or FPSO projects); 10 years for Master’s degree holders or 15 years for diploma holders

Strong knowledge of piping specifications, material selection, and code compliance

Familiarity with offshore standards and practices, including pipe stress, corrosion allowances, and insulation requirements

Proficient in the use of MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and piping material management systems such as SPMAT or AVEVA ERM

Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate across disciplines and manage vendor interfaces
