About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Electrical Balance of Plant (BOP) Operations Engineering team within the Operations Engineering department. This team provides expertise and support across renewable generating assets, focusing on transformers, cables, reactive power devices, substations, relays, breakers, and power plant controllers.

In this role, you will:

  • Support site operations with substation restoration efforts.

  • Analyze relay events and phasor measurement unit data to determine causes and restoration measures.

  • Conduct and review Power System Studies (Arc Flash, Short Circuit, etc.).

  • Perform and/or oversee power plant controller testing.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable NERC standards.

  • Provide after-hours restoration support as part of the on-call team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct, review, and approve power system studies in line with IEEE standards.

  • Lead and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) from ISOs, NERC, and external stakeholders.

  • Review and approve HV/MV equipment specifications, ensuring accurate updates to models and compliance records (ETAP, PSSE/PSCAD, NERC FAC-008, etc.).

  • Train and mentor engineers in power systems, operations, and relevant standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, NEMA).

  • Lead Power Plant Controller Testing, ensuring tests meet requirements (ERCOT AVR, PFR, NERC MOD-025) without impacting operations.

  • Ensure NERC technical compliance (PRC-019, PRC-024, PRC-025, MOD-025, etc.).

  • Provide recommendations for substation maintenance programs based on best practices.

  • Deliver substation restoration support during nights and weekends.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Physics, or a related field (Professional Engineer license preferred).

  • Experience: Minimum 6 years in:

    • Operating and analyzing high-voltage power systems.

    • Power generation, generation management, and automatic generation control.

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Power generation/distribution equipment (transformers, switchgear, feeders, substations).

    • Protective relays and coordination studies.

    • Power system studies (Power Flow, Reactive Power, Short Circuit, Arc Flash).

    • NERC standards and compliance requirements.

    • Industry modeling software: PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, ETAP.

  • Skills:

    • Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, NESC, NEMA codes/standards.

    • Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management abilities.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Teams.

    • Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.

    • Self-motivated, problem-solving, and results-driven.
