Company Overview

Our client is a top-tier infrastructure solutions provider, delivering innovative engineering services across several of the UK’s most critical energy and industrial sectors. With an impressive portfolio of projects exceeding £200 million, they are expanding their engineering team and seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to be based in Sunderland.

This role offers exposure to technically challenging and high-impact projects, from concept through to commissioning, across a range of regulated and complex environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the technical integrity and compliance of all electrical engineering deliverables within scope, schedule, and safety parameters.

  • Lead and coordinate cross-discipline collaboration between technical, process, and design teams as well as subcontractors and project managers.

  • Act as the primary technical liaison with clients—providing clarity on scope, gathering feedback, and supporting risk mitigation.

  • Support proposals and bids by contributing to:

    • Conceptual electrical system designs

    • Load schedules

    • Component specifications

    • Resource and time estimates

  • Review and validate engineering scope, contracts, client specifications, and schedules during handover and project execution.

  • Ensure designs adhere to relevant standards and regulations, including IET Wiring Regulations, CE/UKCA, and ATEX where applicable.

  • Drive value engineering initiatives and support continuous improvement across design and delivery processes.


Required Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC (or higher) in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering.

  • Experience leading engineering teams within a contract or project-focused environment.

  • Strong understanding of electrical/control systems for material handling in harsh industrial conditions.

  • Familiarity with mechanical processes and their integration into broader systems.

  • Deep knowledge of electrical distribution, control, and protection system design.

  • Sound understanding of design risk assessments, safety legislation, and compliance standards.

  • Strong communication skills and confidence in client-facing roles and technical meetings.

  • Awareness of ATEX standards and hazardous area equipment selection is advantageous.

  • Experience in value engineering and supporting commercial decision-making during the design process.
