Our client is a top-tier infrastructure solutions provider, delivering innovative engineering services across several of the UK’s most critical energy and industrial sectors. With an impressive portfolio of projects exceeding £200 million, they are expanding their engineering team and seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to be based in Sunderland.
This role offers exposure to technically challenging and high-impact projects, from concept through to commissioning, across a range of regulated and complex environments.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure the technical integrity and compliance of all electrical engineering deliverables within scope, schedule, and safety parameters.

Lead and coordinate cross-discipline collaboration between technical, process, and design teams as well as subcontractors and project managers.

Act as the primary technical liaison with clients—providing clarity on scope, gathering feedback, and supporting risk mitigation.

Support proposals and bids by contributing to:

Conceptual electrical system designs

Load schedules
-
Component specifications
-
Resource and time estimates
-

Review and validate engineering scope, contracts, client specifications, and schedules during handover and project execution.

Ensure designs adhere to relevant standards and regulations, including IET Wiring Regulations, CE/UKCA, and ATEX where applicable.

Drive value engineering initiatives and support continuous improvement across design and delivery processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience

HNC (or higher) in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering.

Experience leading engineering teams within a contract or project-focused environment.

Strong understanding of electrical/control systems for material handling in harsh industrial conditions.

Familiarity with mechanical processes and their integration into broader systems.

Deep knowledge of electrical distribution, control, and protection system design.

Sound understanding of design risk assessments, safety legislation, and compliance standards.

Strong communication skills and confidence in client-facing roles and technical meetings.

Awareness of ATEX standards and hazardous area equipment selection is advantageous.

Experience in value engineering and supporting commercial decision-making during the design process.
