Overview:
A leading engineering and construction contractor in the oil & gas, petrochemical, and power sectors is seeking a Senior Cost Engineer to join their team in Qatar. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, scheduling, estimating, and cost control for large-scale EPC and maintenance projects - ensuring delivery within scope, time, and budget.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Develop comprehensive project plans including work breakdown structures (WBS) and milestones.
- Create project timelines and resource plans to support efficient execution.
2. Scheduling
- Develop and maintain project schedules using recognised project management software.
- Allocate manpower, materials, and equipment effectively to meet deadlines.
- Monitor schedule performance and identify potential delays or bottlenecks.
3. Cost Estimation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontracted services.
- Review project specifications to determine accurate budgetary requirements.
- Update and refine estimates as project details evolve.
4. Cost Control
- Track and control project costs to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Identify and analyse cost variances, recommending corrective actions where necessary.
- Implement cost optimisation measures to improve project efficiency.
5. Risk Assessment
- Identify potential risks impacting cost and schedule performance.
- Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans to manage cost exposure.
- Conduct periodic risk reviews throughout the project lifecycle.
6. Reporting
- Prepare regular cost and progress reports for project management and stakeholders.
- Provide detailed variance analysis and forecast reports to support decision-making.
7. Documentation
- Maintain accurate and organised records for project budgets, cost reports, and estimates.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes and industry standards.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management.
- 6-8 years of experience in project cost engineering, planning, and scheduling.
- Strong analytical, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
- Proficient in project management and cost control software (e.g., Primavera, Excel).
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Experience in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or industrial construction sector preferred.
